You will hold a joint position as a veterinary virologist at Statens Serum Institut and as professor at the University of Copenhagen.

SSI is under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Health with a mission to prevent and fight infectious and congenital diseases through research-based monitoring and guidance in a one-health perspective. The Department for Virology & Microbiological Preparedness (VMP) at SSI is the national central laboratory for human and veterinary virology. The Department hosts BSL-3 laboratory facilities for analysis of severe contagious livestock diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever and also comprises the national WHO Centers on influenza, polio and measles/rubella. SSI and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Science (DVAS) at the University of Copenhagen (UC) are partners and collaborate in the Danish Veterinary Consortium. The consortium provides research, laboratory diagnostics, consultancy and surveillance of 80 different livestock diseases as described in a service agreement with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. Job description

The position of professor comprises of an 80% employment at VMP, SSI and a 20% employment at DVAS UC. The professor is expected to coordinate the research in severe contagious livestock diseases including foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever, but also to strengthen the research in climate-related emerging viral infections and vector-borne viral diseases.

Qualifications

We search an internationally recognized research profile within virology and severe contagious livestock diseases.

  • Experience in leadership and supervising of research activities such as PhD and post docs projects.
  • Capable in achievement of - and experience in administration of research grants
  • Collaboration skills including participation in international research networks
  • High impact publications and communication of research results at scientific meetings and in public medias
  • Teaching experiences
  • Practical experience with experimental animal models and BSL-3 laboratory facilities.
At SSI we can offer an ambitious research environment in veterinary virology with an academic staff of 7 veterinarians, 2 senior researchers, 3 academic staff members, and 17 laboratory technicians. Salary to a PdD student will be part of the professorship. We participate in a broad range of international research networks.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 29,6 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
