We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated resident in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia from 1’st of December 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The residency position is limited to 4 years, however we are looking for a candidate who might see themselves working in academia long term.

About the department – University of Copenhagen Our Anaesthesiology Unit The veterinary anaesthesiology unit is focused on optimizing anaesthetic protocols, advancing pain management strategies, and ensuring perioperative patient safety. Our unit is part of the Section for Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in Companion Animals and the section includes faculty, diplomates, residents, and senior clinicians. Our anaesthesia service provides a strong platform for research and clinical teaching in veterinary anaesthesiology. The service works closely with all the University Hospital for Companion Animals' services, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. The successful candidate will join a team of lecturers, and anaesthesia technicians and work with several specialists within a range of disciplines.
Your Job The University of Copenhagen is currently in the process of approval as a training site for the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA), and the residency program will take place in accordance with the guidelines and requirements established by ECVAA.
You will be part of the anesthesiology teams at the
University Hospitals for Companion Animals and
Large Animals respectively. Your work tasks, based on the patient material from the University Hospitals, will primarily include clinical work, on-call duties, demonstrations, and participation in teaching veterinary students. You will also participate to a lesser extent in clinical rotations in other specialty services at the University Hospitals and with approved partners both domestically and abroad to fulfill rotations according to the residency program. Additionally, the resident will undertake research tasks and dissemination of these in accordance with the residency program.
Essential Skills and Experience • Veterinary degree and Danish veterinary authorization or the possibility of obtaining this.
• Documented 1 year internship in companion animals at a university or 2 years at another specialized companion animal practice, including experience with referred patients, emergency patients, and referring veterinarians.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- If not proficient in Danish, willingness to learn during employment. Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is an advantage.
- Ability to handle complex patient-related issues in relation to anaestesia. Prior experience with large animals (mainly equines) is an advantage
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Desire to teach, prior experience with undergraduate teaching is an advantage
- Strong overview and ability to manage many simultaneous tasks
- Independence in planning work functions, research projects, and completion of the residency program and associated exams.
- Flexibility in relation to undertaking national and international externships according to the ECVAA program

Terms of employment Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The position is a full-time position corresponding to a 37-hour work week. The position is limited to 4 years.
