Postdoc in Translational Pharmacology
  • Syddansk Universitet
  • Campusvej 55, 5230

The translational pharmacology research group and the environmental medicine group at Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM), University of Southern Denmark, is looking for a shared fully financed, full-time postdoctoral researcher for 1 year. The position is to be filled from February 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The translational group is led by Professor Tore Bjerregaard Stage, and the environmental medicine group is led by Professor Tina Kold Jensen.

The academic position

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the CIPN clinical trial at three hospitals in Southern Denmark

  • Setting up a clinical trial investigating PFAS

  • Establishing and maintaining contact and collaboration agreements with partners involved in both clinical trials and subsequent analysis

  • Working in REDCap

  • Teaching and supervision at the University of Southern Denmark

In the translational group, we are looking for a postdoc for a project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project focuses on investigating chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in breast cancer patients treated with paclitaxel. The environmental medicine group is looking for a postdoc for a project funded by the European Research Council grant. This project focuses on investigating ways to increase the elimination of PFAS among individuals with elevated levels of PFAS.

You will in your daily work refer to Professor Tore B. Stage when working on the CIPN clinical trial and to Professor Tina Kold Jensen when working on the PFAS project but also engage in a very active collaboration with the full research group.

Our department

The research areas of CPPEM span from pharmacoepidemiology to clinical studies, and cell-based basic pharmacology and environmental medicine. Collectively, CPPEM has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Specifically, the pharmacoepidemiological research group utilizes the world-class Danish registries as well as international data sources to assess pharmacological questions in large populations. The translational pharmacology group aims to understand variability in drug toxicity, drug metabolism and drug transport. Examples of this include cell-based models such as induced-pluripotent stem cells, primary human hepatocytes and clinical studies. The environmental medicine group studies the impact of early life exposures to environmental chemicals. In particular per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a focus area, with studies of the adverse health effects of exposure, biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities. The analytical chemistry laboratory analyzes concentrations of drugs or environmental chemicals in various matrices.

Qualifications

In terms of experience, we are looking for an individual with a PhD degree within pharmacology, oncology, environmental medicine, or similar fields, and preferably with practical experience in conducting clinical trials. It is more important to find a highly motivated individual than the exact previous experience of the candidate. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English is a requirement. The position includes independent scientific writing and supervision of students. You should be interested in contributing both to the scientific armamentarium in our department and to our collegial culture.

It will also be expected that the postdoc contributes to additional fundraising for the projects and takes on teaching responsibilities within the department.
