At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Sustainability and Planning, a PhD stipend is available within the general study programme Planning and Development. The stipend is open for appointment from December 1 2025, or soon hereafter.
The Department of Development and Planning conducts research and teaching on sustainability and planning in a broad sense, including social science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.
Job description
The PhD project will contribute to two European research projects funded by the Driving Urban Transition partnership. The purpose of the phd project is to develop an inter- and transdisciplinary understanding of how transitions towards 15 minutes cities can be promoted. Based on case-studies in a Danish city and co-creating activities with planners and stakeholders the project will identify and test institutional, procedural, and social innovations and political strategies to navigate the politics of just and sustainable urban mobility transtions.
As the project involves reading municipal strategies, local case studies and co-creation activities it is a prerequisite that the candidate is fluent in writen and oral danish when this is the working language of the municipal administration. It is furthermore an advantage if the candidate can demonstrate experiences with urban mobility planning informed by the 15 min city concepts
The PhD stipend will be part of the research group Planning for Urban Sustainability (PLUS) that is allocated acroos the two campuses Aalborg and Copenhagen. The working place for the PhD is in Copenhagen
Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
