At the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, the Department of Epidemiology Research at SSI is looking for a passionate Data Scientist to join our department for a two-year position, working in the intersection between statistics, machine learning and causal inference to advance public health.

Our research interests focus on infectious diseases and vaccines, and on developing methods and tools to better leverage the unique data sources available in Denmark for health data science.

Your role: Advancing data-driven discoveries
As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for the analytical part of one or more data science projects. You will be embedded in a team of 10 analysts, where you will contribute to shaping the future of health data science at SSI. You will develop cutting-edge tools and techniques, build predictive models using machine learning and leverage causal inference to better understand the causes of disease.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data wrangling: Orchestrate complex health data into analysis-ready formats
  • Tool development: Design and implement innovative tools to streamline data- and research workflows and extract novel insights
  • Machine learning: Apply machine learning to tackle real-world health challenges
  • Statistical analysis: Conduct rigorous statistical analyses to establish causal relationships and inform evidence-based decision-making
Your profile
We are looking for an individual with an MSc/PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field, coupled with a strong interest in data-driven health research. Proficiency in R/Python and SQL is essential, along with documented experience in statistics, machine learning or causal inference. A high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English is a must.

Terms of Employment
The employment will be in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC-overenskomsten) and the Danish Ministry of Finance’s circular concerning the job structure for scientific staff working with research at sector research institutions (Stillingsstruktur for videnskabeligt personale med forskningsopgaver ved sektorforskningsinstitutioner).

The employment is temporary for a period of two years, starting on 1 February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
