Do you want to shape the future of European weather forecasting? At the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), we are looking for a manager for international collaborations. At DMI, you will be employed in Copenhagen but work at the heart of international weather collaborations. In this role, you will manage and coordinate activities across major European consortia such as United Weather Centres (UWC) and ACCORD.



Your role You will take a leading role in managing joint programmes across national meteorological institutes, ensuring that partners work toward common goals and deliver results effectively. The collaborations bring together expertise from across Europe to improve numerical weather prediction and to explore new opportunities with machine learning in weather forecasting.



Your work will focus on:

  • Managing and coordinating joint programmes and activities across international partners in alignment with the shared strategic vision.
  • Facilitating strong collaboration and knowledge sharing across scientific and operational teams.
  • Representing DMI and our partners in European collaborations, ensuring a strong voice at the international level.
  • Supporting the transition towards hybrid forecasting methods, combining traditional numerical weather prediction with machine learning.
  • Ensuring coherence between strategic goals and operational delivery in large consortia.


Who are you? We are seeking a colleague with a strategic mindset and strong coordination skills who thrives in complex international environments. You are motivated by creating results in collaboration with others and enjoy building bridges across cultures, disciplines, and institutions. You can design and understand complex system architectures as well as explain the reasoning behind architectural choices.



We expect you to bring most of the following:

  • Leadership and collaboration skills, with experience from international projects or consortia
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and cooperation
  • Academic background in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or a related field
  • Knowledge of numerical weather prediction systems
  • Experience with software version control and software architecture
  • Knowledge of machine learning is an advantage
  • Fluency in English
About the Weather Models unit At DMI, you will be part of the Weather Models Unit, a team of about 21 highly skilled researchers and developers. We design, develop and maintain advanced numerical weather prediction models and systems that form the backbone of Denmark’s weather services. Our work ensures that operational meteorologists, emergency services, businesses and the public receive accurate and timely forecasts every day.

We collaborate closely with international partners, working at the forefront of scientific and technological development. In the unit, we value knowledge sharing, curiosity and collaboration, and we believe that the best results are achieved in an open and supportive environment where we also enjoy working together.



About DMI DMI is part of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities. DMI is the government's climate science advisor, creating and communicating knowledge about weather, climate and the sea to the Danish Realm. DMI's warnings, weather forecasts, and services safeguard life and infrastructure and provide a basis for planning in a changing climate. As an authority on weather, climate and the sea, DMI provides meteorological services to the Danish defence, emergency preparedness, as well as civil aviation and shipping in Denmark and Greenland. DMI is one of the oldest state institutions in Denmark and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022.

We have approximately 350 employees, most of whom work at DMI’s new headquarters at Sankt Kjelds Gård on Østerbro, Copenhagen.



Employment and salary Employment and salary will be according to the Danish Law and Agreements. It will be possible to apply for an addition to the basic salary.

DMI offers a flexible working week of 37 hours including a paid lunch break, and six weeks of paid vacation annually. If you come from abroad, there is a possibility for a reduced tax scheme the first 7 years.
