Early Years Educator (Pedagogue), temporary position (Jan 2026–Jan 2027)
  • S/I International School of Hellerup
  • Rygårds Allé 131, 2900 Hellerup

The International School of Hellerup is seeking a dynamic and flexible Early Years Educator (Pedagogue) to join our Early Years Team and After School Care Programme (ASCP). This is a temporary 90% position from January 5th, 2026 until January 18th, 2027, working Monday to Friday with children aged 3–5 years during both school and after-school hours. Work hours fall between 7:00 and 17:00, with daily shifts scheduled in coordination with the Early Years team.

Pedagogues at ISH are collaborative partners in the classroom, working alongside homeroom teachers to co-construct meaningful, inquiry-driven experiences for young learners. We are looking for an educator who brings a holistic, play-based approach that nurtures social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

As an IB World School, our Early Years team is guided primarily by the principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), emphasizing inquiry, international-mindedness, and holistic child development. We also work with the Danish Børnehave Læreplan, to ensure alignment with national expectations and to enrich our play-based, developmentally appropriate approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers and fellow pedagogues to plan and implement learning engagements.

  • Facilitate small-group activities and individualized support to reinforce learning.

  • Observe and identify developmental, emotional, or learning needs; communicate observations to the teaching team.

  • Prepare the learning environment and materials to support daily routines and planned experiences.

  • Supervise and care for students during class time, lunch, outside play, transitions, and field trips.

  • Promote consistency by upholding class and school essential agreements throughout the day (class time, transitions, and ASCP).

  • Support students' self-care routines including toileting, handwashing, and meals.

  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere that grows children’s independence and supports social-emotional learning (SEL).

  • Support children’s voice and agency by creating space for exploration, questions, and contributions.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a qualified and knowledgeable early childhood educator who brings both professional expertise and a passion for working with young children in a dynamic international setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of early childhood development and learning through play and inquiry.

Essential qualities and qualifications include:

  • A degree or formal qualification in Early Childhood Education or Pedagogy.

  • Fluency in English (Danish is an advantage but not required).

  • Proven experience working with young children, preferably in an international or IB PYP context.

  • A solid understanding of developmentally appropriate practice and the ability to apply it in ways that are responsive to individual children's needs.

  • A strong commitment to the educational philosophy of the IB, including inquiry-based learning, international-mindedness, and student agency.

  • The ability to work effectively and respectfully in a culturally diverse and collaborative team environment.

  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, the Danish Børnehave Læreplan and how it complements our IB approach.

  • A reflective and growth-oriented mindset, open to feedback and committed to continuous professional learning.

  • Flexibility, dependability, and a positive, proactive approach to working with colleagues, children, and families.

Working Hours

Work hours fall between 7:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.

Approximate daily commitment: 7.5 hours, scheduled according to program needs.
