DevOps Assistant - DTU Wind
  • DTU-RISØ
  • Frederiksborgvej 399, 4000 Roskilde

We are looking for part time DevOps Assistants focused on CI/CD, software security, and software monitoring. Are you a student in an IT education program, or do you have 1–2 years of experience with coding or software development? Are you eager to learn, curious, and proactive? Then you might be the one we're looking for.

We are looking for two assistants to join our software team. In these positions, you will be helping to grow our knowledge base and improve our operational systems. Our team works on large scale web applications like the global wind atlas and has a need to improve our CI/CD pipelines, software security scanning, and system and software monitoring and alerting.

The job
Both positions list a variety of tasks, but don’t worry if you’re only familiar with some of them. You’ll have the chance to learn and build your skills on the job. If you bring curiosity and motivation, we’ll support you with guidance, resources, and opportunities to explore new tools and best practices in modern software development.

Position 1: CI/CD and Software security
In this role, you will be tasked with updating and enhancing our Gitlab CI recipes to improve performance and flexibility, and to add security scanning.

Your tasks will include:

  • Extending, Enhancing, and Building reusable CI templates with maintainable patterns for use across projects
  • Analysing and improving the performance of Gitlab CI pipelines
  • Configuring and maintaining Mend.io’s Renovate bot for automated dependency updates
  • Add and maintain CI jobs for security scanning such as:
    • Static Code Analysis
    • Container vulnerability scanning
    • License compliance checking
  • Creating documentation and onboarding guides for other developers

Position 2: Observability and Monitoring Web Tools and Infrastructure
In this role, you will work to improve our existing monitoring stack, which includes Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Tempo, by adding alerting and dashboards, and rolling it out to more tools and systems.

Your tasks will include:

  • Extending and improving monitoring of CPU, memory, and container-level metrics
  • Developing best practices or templates for consistent logging/tracing across services
  • Implementing structured logging and distributed tracing in our FastAPI tools
  • Setting up Grafana dashboards and alerting rules for system and application health
  • Exploring options for data aggregation and long-term storage
  • Documenting your setup and create guides for internal developers

Our expectations of you

Position 1: We’re looking for someone who has worked with GitLab CI/CD – for example through school projects, personal experiments, or internships (YAML syntax, pipelines, includes, components). This is a key part of the role and therefore a requirement.

If you’ve been exposed to DevOps practices, especially around CI/CD performance and Docker, that’s a plus. You should also have a genuine interest in software security and security tooling.

We value people who are service-minded, comfortable working independently, curious to explore new approaches, and have good English skills.

Position 2: We’re looking for someone who has tried working with Docker – whether through coursework, personal projects, or internships – or who has knowledge in system monitoring, logging, and DevOps workflows. This is a central part of the role and therefore a requirement.

Experience or familiarity with tools like Grafana and Python/FastAPI is a plus, but not a requirement.

You should be service-minded, able to work independently, eager to learn and experiment with new ideas, and have good English skills.

What we offer in return
At DTU Wind, you will be part of a team of 6 developers focused on providing dissemination of our research through software tools and web platforms. You will enter an organization that aims to develop knowledge at an international level. You can look forward to having the opportunity to learn key technologies, while applying them to real world applications.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) or in accordance with the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for IT employees (Prosa) in the service of the state.

Working hours are on average 12 hours per week and can be organized flexibly in relation to holidays etc. Starting date is October 1st (or according to mutual agreement).
