For our office in Hørsholm, we are looking for a
Biochemical Engineer - Fermentation
We are looking for a Biochemical Engineer with expertise in upstream fermentation and process scale-up to play a pivotal role in bridging laboratory innovation with large-scale manufacturing. In this role, you will ensure that microbial fermentation processes developed in R&D are successfully scaled and implemented at external CDMO/CMO partners, enabling robust, commercially viable production.
This position offers the opportunity to work across internal R&D teams and external partners, providing both technical depth and cross-functional collaboration. You will be responsible for preparing and executing technology transfer, troubleshooting challenges during scale-up, and supporting readiness for commercial manufacturing.
This is a hands-on, impact-driven role where your expertise in upstream fermentation and process scale-up will directly shape how we bring products to market.
What you'll do with us:
Process Scale-Up & Technology Transfer
Apply bioprocess engineering principles (e.g., kLa, mixing time, P/V) to translate lab-scale processes into scalable, robust operations.
Lead the scale-up of microbial upstream processes from 1–10 L laboratory systems to 200–2000 L+ manufacturing scales.
Build robust tech transfer packages with process descriptions, risk assessments, and fit-for-purpose evaluations.
Collaboration with C(D)MO Partners
Serve as the technical point of contact for CDMO/CMO partners during tech transfer and production campaigns.
Review and align on protocols, provide troubleshooting support, and ensure process fidelity throughout scale-up and production runs.
Represent the company on-site and remotely to keep scale-up activities running smoothly.
Process Characterization & Documentation
Design and execute process characterization studies, including DoE-based optimization, to define CPPs and acceptable ranges.
Prepare and review technical documentation such as development reports, risk assessments, and deviation justifications.
Contribute regulatory and quality documentation to support pre-commercial and commercial readiness.
Your qualification & attributes:
MSc or PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in bioprocess development and scale-up, ideally including first-time technology transfer to manufacturing.
Hands-on experience with microbial bioreactor systems (1 L–30 L) and process scale-up to 100 L–2000 L+.
Proficiency in preparing technical transfer documentation (TTPs, risk assessments, deviation reports).
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for upstream fermentation processes.
Experience with data analysis and process modeling tools is an advantage.
Excellent technical communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to work across functions and organizations.
High attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Are you ready to make an impact?
If you are passionate about making a difference and share our values of diversity, collaboration, and quality, we encourage you to submit your application today. We eagerly await hearing from you!
