We have an exciting opportunity to join the Imaging-based Drug Discovery Facility at reNEW, University of Copenhagen. This position will support high-content and high-throughput drug screening activities. Our facility enables researchers to conduct high-content image-based screens of organoids (three-dimensional 'mini organs' derived from stem cells) and other stem cell-based disease models. The goal is to identify novel lead compounds for currently incurable diseases. The position starts on August 1, 2025, or as agreed upon with the selected candidate. The position is time-limited to 2 years.
Job description: We are looking for a highly motivated and independent employee with an interest in hands-on laboratory work centered around the technical aspects of cell-based assay development, assay automation and high-throughput/high-content screening experiments. The successful candidate will support the day-to-day lab operations of multiple automation and imaging-based screening systems, help manage laboratory inventories and work closely with the facility lead on internal and external cell-based drug discovery projects. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to integrating new automation technologies, enhancing the scientific services provided by the facility.
Key responsibilities: - Contribute to pre-clinical cell-based drug discovery research projects
- Assist in development and validation of assays for cell-based phenotypic screening and their transfer to robotic systems for high-throughput imaging-based screening
- Assist in development and testing of automation procedures, including liquid handling workflows, drug dispensing, and automated imaging protocols
- Assist in training of internal and external users on equipment usage
- Assist in executing high throughput primary and secondary drug screens and generation of high-quality screening data
- Accurately document, analyze, and report experimental data and results
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including routine maintenance, SOP generation, and calibration
Essential experience and skills You have:
- A Master’s degree in life sciences or relevant education as a Bioanalyst or Laboratory technician
- Solid laboratory experience and an active interest in hands-on laboratory work
- Documented experience in cell culture work
- Strong interest and/or experience in automation, including liquid handling and automated image acquisition/analysis
- A service-minded personality and feel comfortable working with different people
- Excellent time management, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills
- Good English skills, written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills - Experience with in vitro cell-based assays
- Experience in fluorescence microscopy, in particular widefield and spinning-disk confocal
- Experience in image analysis (i.e.: Harmony, CellPathfinder, Cell Profiler, ImageJ, Fiji, Imaris, etc.)

The Imaging-based Drug Discovery Facility was established by the Center for Stem Cell-based Disease Modelling and Drug Screening:
https://stemscreen.ku.dk/, and subsequently expanded to incorporate additional equipment and expertise. As a member of the Imaging-based Drug Discovery Facility, you will also be part of the reNEW core-facility team, supporting both reNEW research groups and the wider research community at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and the University of Copenhagen. The screening facility provides access to several high-end screening and automation systems. Our equipment portfolio includes two state-of-the-art high-speed spinning-disk confocal screening microscopes (Yokogawa CV8000 and REVVITY Opera Phenix), automated plate washers, a digital dispenser and a custom-designed liquid-handling platform with incubator integration for automated and high-throughput sample preparation.
Terms of employment The employment is a full-time position (37 hours per week) for a period of 2 years with a possibility of extension, and the starting date is 1 August 2025 or after agreement.
Employment as Academic Employee will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority).. The employer will pay an additional 18,07 % to your pension fund.
Employment as Bioanalyst will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and Danske Bioanalytikere. The employer will pay an additional 18,4 % to your pension fund
Employment as Laboratory Technician will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and OAO/HK STAT. The position is placed in salary group 3 or 4 depending on qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 16 % to your pension fund
There is the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
