Copenhagen Business School invites applications for two Assistant Professorships in the organizational study of philanthropy and ecosystem change within the Department of Organization. These positions offer an opportunity to join a vibrant research environment exploring how global philanthropy shapes organizational and wider institutional transformation. The preferred starting dates are April 2026 and September 2026, respectively, or shortly thereafter.
The Assistant Professors will join an established research team led by Associate Professor Jane Bjørn Vedel. The team investigates how large-scale funding from global philanthropic organizations contributes to organizational and ecosystem change. These changes encompass, for example, organizational transformations in forms, governance, and learning, as well as ecosystem shifts in professions, actor roles, and coordination mechanisms.
The team primarily conducts qualitative research but also welcomes scholars with complementary quantitative expertise. Its work focuses on meso- to macro-level dynamics and benefits from unique access to major philanthropic foundations. The team’s shared ambition is to produce high-impact journal publications in the fields of Management and Organization Studies while maintaining an ongoing dialogue with foundation executives and stakeholders affected by philanthropy.
The two successful candidates will contribute to a specific externally funded research project, supported by a Novo Nordisk Foundation grant, examining large-scale global research ventures at universities established through major philanthropic donations. Each candidate will focus on one of two interrelated research areas (subprojects):
- A meso-level, intra-venture study of how such organizational entities evolve over time within global partnership structures.
- A macro-level analysis of how the broader institutional context shapes these ventures’ development and trajectories.
Candidates are expected to have a strong background in Management, Organization, and/or Strategy, and to demonstrate both the ability and willingness to work collaboratively within a high-performing research team. They should also be committed to presenting work-in-progress at leading international conferences in the field of management and organization.
Both Assistant Professorships are fixed-term positions (3 years) with a combination of research and teaching obligations (66% research and 34% teaching). The successful candidates are expected to teach in areas of organization and management at CBS.
The Department of Organization (IOA) pursues a problem-oriented, business in society approach to understanding and intervening in organizations and organizational life. Our approach is interdisciplinary and combines social-scientific traditions such as organization theory, sociology, ethnography, political economy, and social psychology. Methodologically, our research is predominantly qualitative and often involves case study and fieldwork methodology.
