The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time on-site position as Teaching Assistant Professor in Veterinary Anaesthesiology and analgesia, starting 1 February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will be part of the Anaesthesiology group within the Section for Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in Companion Animals, contributing to clinical teaching and service development in companion animal anaesthesia and analgesia.


About the Department
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is home to internationally recognized research and teaching in clinical veterinary medicine. We aim to set new standards for interdisciplinary education and innovation in animal health and disease, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.

The veterinary anaesthesiology unit is dedicated to optimizing anaesthetic and analgesic protocols, advancing pain management strategies, and ensuring perioperative patient safety. The team includes a European boarded diplomate, a resident, and senior clinicians, and operates across both the University Hospital for Companion Animals and the University Hospital for Large Animals. This dual-service structure provides a robust platform for clinical teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Job Description
The Teaching Assistant Professor will be responsible for clinical teaching in veterinary anaesthesiology and analgesia for undergraduate veterinary students and involved in the teaching of postgraduate master’s students and veterinary technicians enrolled in the continued education program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the clinical anaesthesia service at the University Hospital for Companion Animals
  • A strong drive for development and delivering clinical teaching in companion animal anaesthesia and analgesia for undergraduate students including assessment and evaluation.
  • Supporting the training of interns and residents in our upcoming European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) programme.
  • Assisting faculty colleagues in developing teaching strategies and materials for under- and post-graduate students
  • Participate and assist faculty colleagues in clinical research work to support research based teaching related to the services of the Anaesthesia unit
  • Engaging in pedagogical training for assistant professors and implementation of relevant and novel educational tools in the daily teaching environment
  • Contributing to administrative tasks related to teaching and clinical service
While the position does not require independent research, there are opportunities to collaborate with ongoing research initiatives within the Anaesthesia unit.

The teaching assistant professor is required to undertake and complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“Adjunktpædagogikum”).


Required Qualifications

  • DVM degree and authorization to practice veterinary medicine in Denmark, or eligibility for Danish veterinary licensure within three months of appointment (licensing info)
  • Documented clinical teaching experience in veterinary companion animal anaesthesiology
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English


Desirable Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn Danish during employment and to obtain the proficiency level required for daily communication within the unit
  • Candidates with experience in supervision of anaesthesia technicians are preferred

Terms of Employment
Salary and employment terms are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organizations.

The position is 37 hours per week and is not time-limited. The successful candidate must complete university pedagogy training within the first 6 years and may, upon positive evaluation, be employed as an associate professor.
