Overview
Are you an experienced engineer who is passionate about user interfaces, deep-tech, and positive societal impact? Fascinated by 3D, cloud and machine learning? Love working with cutting-edge tools, on a blank canvas, and in unconstrained environments? Want to play a leading role as H3D grows from a profitable startup to an iconic scaleup?
We are looking for an ambitious UX Engineer who gets excited by these questions! You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and shape the DNA of our company.
About H3D
H3D is an Australian Ph.D. research spinout whose mission is to make custom-fit devices (e.g. hearing aids, dental appliances) accessible to everyday people. We do this by providing AI technology to audio and dental labs – our Dental CAD, Audio CAD and Smartphone Scanning products – to grow their businesses and better support patients.
Since our product launch in 2021, H3D are growing fast and working with industry leaders such as Logitech, GN Resound, Modern Dental Group and many others. The company is backed by leading VC investors and has customers based worldwide.
What You'll Do
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design and implement intuitive user workflows across Audio and Dental dashboard products, ensuring consistency and usability.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive H3D design system with reusable Vue.js components, design tokens, and theming infrastructure that engineers can leverage across both dashboards.
- Work directly within dashboard codebases (Vue.js, TypeScript, CSS) to implement UI/UX improvements, from prototypes to production-ready features.
- Develop and maintain component documentation, usage guidelines, and best practices to enable efficient collaboration between design and engineering teams.
- Conduct user research and usability testing with lab technicians and other end users, translating insights into actionable design improvements and feature enhancements.
- Design intuitive data visualizations and reporting interfaces for job statistics, processing metrics, and business intelligence needs.
- Transform third-party branding requirements into cohesive dashboard themes while maintaining H3D's core design language and ensuring brand consistency.
- Serve as the go-to UX/UI resource for engineers, providing design guidance, reviewing implementations, and ensuring design quality across releases.
Must-Have Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in UX engineering or frontend development with strong design sensibilities, preferably in B2B SaaS or technical products.
- Strong proficiency in Vue.js (both Vue 2 and Vue 3), TypeScript, and modern CSS.
- Proven experience building and maintaining design systems, component libraries, and comprehensive documentation for engineering teams.
- Portfolio demonstrating ability to create clean, intuitive interfaces for complex technical workflows and data-heavy applications.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-directed problem solver comfortable working in existing codebases while driving improvements and standardization.
- Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and translating findings into design decisions and product improvements.
Nice-To-Have Experience:
- Familiarity with frontend build tools (Webpack, Vite) and their impact on component architecture and performance.
- Experience with Element Plus, Ant Design, or similar enterprise UI component libraries.
- Background in designing for medical, manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with design tools that integrate with code (Figma Dev Mode, Storybook, etc.).
- Experience with Git workflows and collaborating with distributed engineering teams.
- Knowledge of AWS services and how they impact frontend architecture and user experience.
- Background working with legacy codebases and implementing incremental design improvements.
