We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant for a 1-year position to commence the 19th of February 2026 or after agreement.

The post is available in the research group of Associate Professor Fena Ochs at the Center for Gene Expression (CGEN) at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM), University of Copenhagen.

Our research
The Ochs group (https://icmm.ku.dk/english/research-groups/ochs-group/ investigates the molecular mechanisms of genome stability maintenance in the 3D chromatin space. We aim to unravel how gene regulation, DNA repair, and cell division are coordinated in space and time, and how disruptions in these processes contribute to pathological conditions such as infertility, neurodevelopmental disorders, and cancer.

Your job
The successful candidate will investigate the molecular role of the cohesin complex in DNA repair. This project will be carried out in close collaboration with Rigshospitalet, to establish a cohort of patients carrying mutations in cohesin, resulting in the neurodevelopmental disorder Cornelia-de-Lange Syndrome.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree related to the subject area of the project, e.g. biology, biochemistry or biomedicine. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years).

Other essential criteria are:

  • A qualification corresponding to a master’s degree and practical work experience in a field related to the subject of research, e.g. biology, biochemistry, or biomedicine.
  • Extensive experience in mammalian tissue culture, including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and stem cell work.
  • Advanced experience in QIBC sample preparation, imaging, and data analysis.
  • A high degree of motivation, enthusiasm, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time-management, self-organisation and teamwork skills.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM currently comprises five research programmes, three high profile Research Centers as well as numerous international research groups. Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 1 year. The starting date is the 19th of February 2026 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organization. Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 33,564 /approx. EUR 4,505 (November 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.7 % to your pension fund.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
