We are looking for a Research Assistant to contribute to the project “New Metrics for Interdisciplinary Science”, which develops novel computational and conceptual frameworks to quantify and evaluate interdisciplinarity in scientific research.

The Research Assistant will perform tasks including:

  • Conducting a comprehensive literature review on existing methodologies and metrics used to evaluate interdisciplinary research.
  • Preparing and submitting a scholarly publication outlining the current landscape of interdisciplinary science metrics.
  • Critically examining and synthesizing the diverse definitions of interdisciplinary science with the aim of producing a reconciled conceptual framework.
Our research
The Bhatt–Duchene Group is an interdisciplinary research team working at the intersection of computational science, global health, epidemiology and large-scale data analysis. We are part of the Section for Health Data Science and AI at the University of Copenhagen.

Our research integrates machine learning, epidemiology, quantitative social science, and computational modelling.

Your job

  • Conducting a comprehensive literature review on existing methodologies and metrics used to evaluate interdisciplinary research.
  • Preparing and submitting a scholarly publication outlining the current landscape of interdisciplinary science metrics.
  • Critically examining and synthesizing the diverse definitions of interdisciplinary science with the aim of producing a reconciled conceptual framework.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field: economics, statistics, data science, public health, social data science, computer science, or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in “the science of science” essential
  • Prior experience with research
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Experience with reading, synthesizing and critically assessing academic literature.
  • Strong academic writing skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred:

  • Concrete experience with quantitative methods, econometrics, statistics, machine learning, and data science methods.
  • Prior experience with science of science research and bibliometric data sets and computational text and data analysis.
  • Experience with bibliometric datasets or text/data analysis.
Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Health Data Science and AI, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 6 months. The starting date is January 23rd 2026

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18,07 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.

The further process
