The Department of Biology at SDU invites applications for a position as research assistant in harbour porpoise audiometry. The position is available for up to 1 year from the 1st of January 2026.
The research assistant will be responsible for assessing the effects on hearing on harbour porpoises from so-called vibropiling and other underwater sounds. Vibropiling is a new technology used to secure offshore windmill towers into the sediment. The effects on harbour porpoises is studied using the three specimen in captivity at Fjord&Bælt, Kerteminde, Denmark. Both behavioural reactions using playback as well as temporary threshold shifts in the hearing system are measured.
Specific tasks for the research assistant include
Temporary threshold shift measurements and analysis by audory brainstem response as well as psychophysics;
Performing playback studies and analysing behavioural response data;
Calibration of sensors; and
Participate in other projects on echolocation and hearing in odontocetes.
We seek a candidate with a M.Sc. degree in biology, environmental sciences or engineering, experience with experimental work on marine mammals, scientific programming skills as well as good organizational, planning, and communication skills.
