Do you thrive in dynamic environments where no two days are alike? Do you enjoy stepping in where needed to keep complex academic and research activities running smoothly? The Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is seeking a proactive and experienced Project Manager to support a variety of research and education initiatives across the natural sciences.
You will not necessarily manage a single project from start to finish. Instead, you will be the person who helps teams succeed when things get busy jumping in to coordinate, organise, and deliver results across multiple ongoing projects, events, and administrative activities.
About the Position
As part of the External Relations Team at SDU’s Faculty of Science, you will contribute to the smooth implementation of funded projects, training activities, and events. You will work closely with academic staff, administrative colleagues, and external partners to ensure that the Faculty’s research and collaboration initiatives run efficiently.
While most work takes place during normal office hours, the role also involves periods of high activity and occasional evening or weekend work associated with events and deadlines. We value flexibility and ensure that extra efforts are balanced with a supportive and adaptable working environment.
Your main tasks include:
Providing ad hoc project management and coordination support across a portfolio of research projects and education activities.
Implement and take responsibility for the operational management of projects.
Assisting with project start-up when new grants are awarded.
Supporting high-activity periods—including project deadlines, events, and training schools.
Coordinating meetings, workshops, and travel, and managing related logistics.
Liaising with project officers, administrative staff, academic partners, and industry collaborators.
Supporting dissemination and communication activities, including websites and social media.
Contributing to management support and documentation, ensuring compliance with SDU procedures.
Assisting with the preparation of deliverables and reports for funders.
Your Qualifications and Profile
We are looking for a flexible, organised, and solution-oriented team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
You likely have:
A background in natural sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Data Science) — a PhD or similar qualification is an advantage.
Experience in research administration or project management, preferably within a university or research environment.
Strong organisational and analytical skills, and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent written and spoken English; Danish language skills are an advantage.
Knowledge of Software and grant management platforms including conference manager, CANVA, EU funding and tenders portal, SYGMA, ResearchFish etc.
A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently and under pressure during peak periods.
A willingness to take on both small and large tasks—and to occasionally work outside normal hours during events or deadlines.
We Offer
1 year position with possibility for extention.
Contact Team Leader Mikkel Jørgensen (tel.: +4565502330; e-mail: mikkelj@sdu.dk) for more information.
Expected start date: 1 February 2026 or soon after
You will join a motivated and ambitious team that works at the intersection of research management, proposal development, and science communication. The Faculty of Science at SDU is home to four departments—Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy—comprising 500 employees and 2,000 students.
You will have opportunities for professional growth and training, a supportive and flexible working environment, and close collaboration with strong scientific environments.
