The Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) at Aarhus University is consolidating its research and teaching activities within the field of Design and Manufacturing and invites applications for full Professor within the Section of Design and Manufacturing.

The MPE Department seeks an innovative and visionary researcher capable of establishing and leading an internationally recognized research group and delivering research-based teaching at the Bachelor, Master & PhD levels. The chosen candidate is expected to establish effective and visible research programs, develop local and international research collaborations, attract external funding, and contribute to our mechanical engineering bachelor and master programs with teaching at an international level.

For this open position, we are seeking candidates to advance research in resilient and sustainable design and manufacturing solutions.

Skills in experimental, computational, and modeling aspects and a focus on innovative research in manufacturing areas are highly desired.

An accomplished candidate will create collaborations within the university and industry and have demonstrated experience in securing research funding. The ideal candidate will contribute to DEMA's international presence and enhance its global reputation. Demonstrated research leadership is strongly desired.

We specifically encourage candidates with an interdisciplinary research profile that can support our strategic research activities within Green Transition, Digitalization, and Health in the MPE Department and the University. We prefer candidates that can demonstrate the potential for industrial application of their research.

The candidate should bridge existing fields in the section and department, and we encourage applicants to address potential synergies in our educational programs and research activities.

The engineering field in Aarhus University is changing with a rapid growth in student population, major research initiatives as well as through the establishment of a number of new physical facilities in the city center of Aarhus. We have significant plans for increasing activities in research, education as well as public and industrial collaboration. The Mechanical and Production Engineering Department within the Faculty of Technical Sciences has cooperation with universities and advisory service providers in more than 20 countries.

The candidates are required to teach relevant courses in the MPE educational program at the B.Sc., M.Sc., and/or PhD levels of the Mechanical and Production Engineering programs.

The candidate is further expected to be part of establishing a new industrial M.Sc. program in within mechanical and production engineering.

To meet expectations in this role, we expect the candidate to fulfill the following requirements:
  • A PhD or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or in a related subject area.
  • A consistent record of producing high-quality research and publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing an internationally recognized research group. Experience in supervision of PhD students or postdoctoral research.)
  • Apply for national and international research grants and make important research contributions.
  • Thrive in both teaching and research roles.
  • Establish effective industrial R&D collaboration. Prior experience in establishing industry collaborations is desired.
  • Bring research results into the public domain. The candidates should have proficient communication skills in English. It is a clear advantage if the candidates have the ability or are willing to develop their communication skills in Danish.

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Formalities and salary range


Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
