Postdoctoral Position Advertisement – Safe and Sustainable by Design Assessment (SSbD)
  • Syddansk Universitet
  • Campusvej 55, 5230 Odense M

The Center for Life Cycle Engineering at the Department of Green Technology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position focused on the implementation of the European Commission’s Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework. The position is based in Odense, Denmark, and part of the CEB JU-funded ALLIANCE project

The position is available from 01 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project, financed by Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) named “EUROPEAN MICROALGAE ALLIANCE (ALLIANCE): INNOVATIVE, SAFE, AND SUSTAINABLE MULTI-PRODUCT BIOREFINERIES FOR A BLUE BIOBASED ECONOMY”. The overall goal of ALLIANCE is to overcome the current limitations in microalgae biorefineries by defining a novel integrated approach to the whole microalgae value chain using a multiproduct biorefinery (MPB) strategy to advance the bioeconomy of microalga-based products effectively.

Project Context

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for developing and implementing hazard and health/safety (SSbD Steps 1–3) for biobased materials used in multiproduct biorefineries. The SSbD work supports substitution of harmful substances, safe processing conditions, and minimizing environmental exposure during final application. The assessments are crucial for validating safer alternatives and sustainable process designs.

Qualifications

The successful candidates should have the following qualifications:
