Postdoc in multi-fidelity structural response analysis of wind turbines - DTU Wind

Would you like to join a team that supports the green energy transition by developing wind turbine response and validation methods and solutions? We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to spearhead the development of structural and multi-body dynamics for wind turbine response and validation.

You will be joining a strong team that works within the following domains:

  • Dynamic turbine response modelling in the multi-body framework HAWC2
  • Aero-servo-hydro-elastic stability analysis
  • Validation of turbine response models against measurements
  • Inflow and wake modelling
  • Wind turbine controller design
  • Aero- and hydro-dynamic modelling
  • Structural dynamics, beam models and cross-sectional modelling

Your specific work will involve modelling and validation of the static and dynamic response of complex wind turbine structures (e.g. wind turbine blades). As part of your work, you will be modelling at multiple fidelities: from simplified beams to full 3D FE models. You will collaborate closely with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad, ensuring that your research has impact in practice as well as in theory.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Investigate, develop and validate new models to simulate wind turbine response in HAWC2 at different fidelity levels.
  • Validation of structural response models against measurements.
  • Support the structural dynamics and multi-body modelling efforts in HAWC2.
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects and be co-supervisor for PhD students.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact academic journals and present at international conferences.

Your Qualifications:

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate experience within the following areas:

Required (all):

  • PhD in Wind Energy, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics and multibody dynamics.
  • Experience with aeroelastic simulations and load analysis of wind turbines.
  • Knowledge of FEA software (e.g. Abaqus).
  • Experienced user of the wind turbine aeroelastic code HAWC2.
  • Proficient in Python and the various numerical packages (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, etc).
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality results.

Preferred (most):

  • Knowledge in reduced-order models for structural dynamics.
  • Knowledge in nonlinear structural analysis.
  • Experience with 2D cross-sectional modelling (e.g. BECAS).
  • Comfortable using Linux based HPC systems.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
