Postdoc in Environmental Genomics and Microbial Biogeography
Do you want to work towards pushing the limits on data and metadata integration for metagenomics globally? And do you see yourself as a team player who is strong in collaboration? If yes, we look forward to reading your application to our position as Postdoc.
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Postdoc in environmental genomics and microbial biogeography is open for appointment from 01.02.2026 or soon hereafter. The position is for 2 years and 6 months.
Your work tasks
You will be establishing the framework for the retrieval, evaluation, and integration of metadata for metagenomic samples that will serve as a foundation for a global digital laboratory for microbial genomics and biogeography. This process will require textual, semantic, geographic, and sequence data analysis and integration. You will help establish standards for metadata quality based on semantic analyses and lead the automation of sample metadata quality and augmentation for metagenomics. In this effort, you will interact closely with local and international collaborators from various disciplines that will result in proposals for expanded community standards. It is expected that you will lead manuscripts describing both the automation efforts and the community standard proposals. Iterative FAIRification and Software documentation is also expected as part of the group’s efforts on Open and Reproducible Science.
Your competencies
A master’s degree in ecology, geography, data science, biology, or a closely related field is an advantage. Research experience developed during a PhD in any of these areas, and a keen interest in microbial ecology are further assets. The applicant must be interested in working in an interdisciplinary research environment and must commit to upholding the highest ethical and academic standards.
