Postdoc in Algal Physiology
  • Syddansk Universitet
  • Campusvej 55, 5230 Odense M

We seek a postdoc to explore the impact of oxygen concentrations, especially low oxygen, on algal physiology, with an emphasis on algal growth. Our aim is to explore the oxygen tolerance of a range of species with broad phylogenetic representation to reflect both the history of algal evolution as well as modern coastal ecosystems subject to both hypoxia and anoxia. Thus, the goal is twofold: to understand how evolving atmospheric oxygen concentrations over time might have impacted the history of algal evolution and to understand how modern climate change, as it impacts ocean oxygenation, might impact algal ecology.

The work will be conducted in the Villum Foundation-funded center EnBiE (Center for Environmental and Biological Evolution) with the Nordcee group (www.nordcee.dk) at the Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark.

The candidate is expected to have a solid background in geobiology, and preferably with a strong interest in algal physiology and in laboratory experimentation. A solid molecular biological toolkit is a plus.

The postdoc period is 2 years from December 1st, 2025 with a possibility of extension.

We recommend that as an international applicant, you take the time to visit Work in Denmark where you will find information and facts about moving to, working and living in Denmark, as well as the International Staff Office at SDU.
