Paid 3-year PhD position with start February or March 2026

Help us identify and develop targets for treating alcohol and substance use disorders as part of the group of Morgan Thomsen.

Your project will assess the new antipsychotic medication Cobenfy as potential medication for cocaine use disorder, focusing on cocaine-taking behavior and cocaine-induced neuronal and neurotoxic alterations in rats and mice. Cobenfy acts through cholinergic muscarinic M1+M4 receptors, a target our group has identified, and which has been described as “the most promising target for cocaine addiction right now”.

You will be responsible for carrying out experiments using various methodologies including intravenous drug self-administration, fiber photometry, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy. Our work is highly collaborative and involves groups at the University of Copenhagen, the NIH, Vanderbilt University, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Kentucky, and more.
