The Department of Electronic Systems at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for professor in the field of Machine Learning for Communication engineering as per September 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is part-time (10%), and available until August 31, 2031.
The Section on Connectivity within the Department of Electronic Systems is seeking a part-time Professor in Machine Learning for Communication Engineering, offering an exciting opportunity for research within a group that has a proven international research track record. The successful applicant will strengthen the team towards contributing to cutting-edge research and education in the intersection of machine learning and communication systems, both classical and quantum. This position involves active collaboration within two major research initiatives in the section: the Villum Investigator Grant WATER and the CLASSIQUE Center for Classical Communications in the Quantum Era. As a part-time Professor, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the section’s research agenda, mentoring students, and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships in a globally recognized environment.
In electronic engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and societal impact. Your Competencies
You have an excellent track record in research that is in the intersection of Communication Engineering and Machine Learning and have established yourself with an excellent research profile with one or more stays or employments with internationally recognized research institutions. You possess documented solid research and teaching qualifications at highest international level, as well as you have significant experience with academic leadership tasks in a research group or research consortium. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector organizations. You also have a documented ability to attract significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies. It is an advantage if you have stayed or been employed at one or more internationally recognized research institutions. If necessary, supplement with specific expectations for the position.

In order to be assessed qualified for a professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.
The specific scientific competences required for this position are:
• Modelling of communication systems that include learning and intelligent modules
• Protocols that support real-time sensing and inference
• Statistical performance guarantees based on conformal prediction
• Processing and communication of classical and quantum information
• Distributed learning, classical or quantum, and the associated protocols
Qualification requirements
Applicants must be able to document a high degree of original academic production at an international level and experience from teaching at different levels. Including tests/exams, course/study programme management as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material.
Emphasis is placed on the extent, to which the applicant, has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
Emphasis may moreover be placed on the applicant’s ability to carry out and develop research-based public-sector consultancy. Also, emphasis will be placed on an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks and possibly fulfil other functions, for example in relation to the university’s external cooperation.
Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant's ability to undertake pedagogical supervision, supervision and academic assessment work.
Who we are
The Connectivity research group at Aalborg University focuses on advancing communication and networking technologies, with a particular emphasis on wireless systems and the transition to 6G. The group is globally recognized for its contributions to wireless communication theory, satellite networks, interplay of communication systems with learning/intelligence, integrated communication and sensing, and, recently, the emerging fields of quantum communication and quantum internet. The research group consists of more than 30 members and visitors. The research activities within the section are structured in six areas: (1) Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Communications; (2) Low Latency and Goal-Oriented Communications; (3) Satellite Communications and Non-Terrestrial Networks; (4) Integrated Communications and Sensing; (5) Open RAN and (6) Quantum communications and quantum internet. The group has a robust team of senior academics, junior researchers, and a growing pool of doctoral students. Recent highlights include securing major funding for projects such as the Villum Investigator Grant for post-5G architectures, EU Horizon projects on 6G, and the CLASSIQUE Center of Excellence for communications in the quantum era.
