One-year Postdoc position in occupational particle exposure

Are you passionate about understanding and reducing occupational exposure to airborne pollutants? Join us at the National Research Centre for the Working Environment (NFA) as a Postdoc. We are offering a one-year Postdoc position, which will allow you to apply and improve your competences within chemical analysis in the service of improving the working environment in Denmark.

Applied research in chemical analysis of work environment You would be joining the research group on Particles, Chemistry and Exposure-analysis, where we focus on the exposure to chemicals and particles, their composition and distribution, within the working environment.

The offered position is intended to take part in three projects concerning occupational exposure to particle and fibres in the textile and construction industry as well as particles and chemicals exposure in environments influenced by emissions from traffic sources. Your work will contribute directly to improving occupational health and shaping safer workplaces in Denmark.

The work involves workplace measurements in Denmark and abroad where you, together with technicians, will perform various online measurements and sampling for subsequent offline analysis. Measurements will be made at different companies and infrastructure sites. Analysis of samples will be performed at NFA in our well-equipped laboratories. As part of the work, you will also process the collected data and provide reporting and scientific publications.

Become our newest colleague As our new colleague, you must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, engineering, physics or a similar field. We expect that you have a proven record of accomplishments within the field of chemical work environment.

We are looking for a candidate that:

  • is familiar with using aerosol measurement equipment such as OPS, ELPI, CPC and SMPS for exposure measurements and preferably have experience with mass spectrometry.
  • is able to participate in workplace measurements within Denmark and internationally. This includes longer days with overnight stay. A driver’s-license is an advantage, as some fieldwork requires travel.
  • have strong and relevant working experience with programing languages such as MATLAB, R-studio and/or Python as complex data treatment of significant amounts of data is needed.
  • have experience in reporting and publishing work in peer reviewed scientific journals, as well as presenting results effectively through conference presentations and popular scientific publications.
  • have very good oral and written communication skills in Danish and English.
Additionally it would be an advantage if you:

  • have experience in occupational exposure assessment modelling based on measurements.
  • are able to work both independently as well as part of larger project teams.
  • thrive in multidisciplinary and multicultural collaboration and is motivated by personal and team accomplishments.
  • have an interest in improving the working environment in Denmark.

Salary and terms The job is a 1-year full-time postdoc position. We would like you start 1st of October 2025, or at first opportunity thereafter.

You will be employed according to the collective agreement for academic staff between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and according to the job specifications for scientific staff employed at government research institutes.
