International School of Hellerup is seeking a qualified and experienced teacher to join our Middle School team as an MYP Language and Literature / EAL Teacher (Grades 6–9), starting Monday, 10th November 2025. This 80% position combines responsibilities for teaching English Language & Literature and providing English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.

The teacher will plan, deliver, and reflect on engaging, inclusive lessons in line with IB MYP philosophy, while also supporting multilingual students in developing their English language skills. The role includes being a class advisor, contributing to the social-emotional learning program, and collaborating closely with colleagues to ensure the success of all learners.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold relevant teaching qualifications in English Literature, EAL, or a related field.

  • Have proven teaching experience with students aged 11–15, preferably in an IB school.

  • Demonstrate high fluency in spoken and written English.

  • Be knowledgeable about current best practices for teaching adolescents in diverse, multilingual settings.

  • Have experience with differentiated instruction and universal design for learning (UDL).

  • Show strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Be organized, reliable, and enthusiastic about contributing to a positive school environment.

  • Have knowledge of, and experience with, the educational philosophies and practices of the International Baccalaureate, specifically relating to the Middle Years Programmes (preferred)

General responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach MYP English Language and Literature lessons that inspire, motivate, and challenge students.

  • Provide targeted EAL interventions to support students with diverse levels of English proficiency.

  • Administering consistent language assessments to track EAL learners’ language

development progress.

  • Employ translanguaging strategies and leverage students’ multilingual backgrounds to support learning.

  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on student progress in both Language & Literature and English language acquisition.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate EAL strategies into the wider curriculum.

  • Mark and assess English entrance papers in accordance with established criteria to support the admissions process.

  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families, fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Act as class advisor, delivering the school’s social-emotional learning curriculum

  • Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture.
