The Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Embassy in Hanoi are seeking a Long-Term Energy Advisor to be stationed in Hanoi, at Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).


Put your technical skills and expertise in long-term energy planning, energy modelling and integration of renewable energy to work for a greater purpose. Join our team of energy experts and play a pivotal role in shaping Vietnam’s future energy landscape. Your experience will be instrumental in supporting the energy ministry in Vietnam in the effective development and regulation of the power sector, in line with the country’s target of becoming a net-zero society by 2050.

About the Job For more than 10 years, Denmark has assisted Vietnam in developing capacity in energy planning, based on Danish approaches and tools to effectively integrate large amounts of renewable energy in the power system.
As Long-term Energy Advisor, you will provide technical advice and capacity building to partner organisations in order to contribute to a fruitful and trust-based cooperation between the partners and the Danish Energy Agency, which is responsible for the implementation and administration of the government-to-government programme in Vietnam.

You will be responsible for providing technical long-term energy planning, and in particular on the strengthening of the existing analytical framework and data foundation used for energy system modelling; on the implementation of the regulatory framework for renewable energy, including offshore wind; on the technical aspects of integrating renewable energy in the power system with focus on power plant and system flexibility, as well as demand response. Moreover, the long-term advisor’s responsibility is to ensure that the programme is well rooted in the partner institutions.

We are seeking a profile with solid experience within climate and energy regulation. You will join our Denmark-Vietnam Energy Partnership Programme (DEPP) and will be working from the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi.

About You We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with:

  • Advanced Education: A master level degree or corresponding qualifications in energy/environmental management, economics, political science, engineering and/or subjects relevant to renewable energy.
  • Strong understanding of policy development: Solid knowledge and experience from working with energy and climate policy development in Danish/international context, renewable energy regulation and political processes in the energy sector.
  • Management skills: Experience from delivery of technical assistance, programme management, exchange visits and technical secondments.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in the Danish Energy Sector: At least 5 years of experience working in the Danish energy sector is a requirement. Experience working with Vietnam is considered an advantage.
