At DTU Skylab, we believe that students and researchers hold the key to generating innovative solutions for a better, more sustainable tomorrow.  We are passionately working to support and motivate teams to embark on their own startup journeys based on groundbreaking ideas from their research. We do this through deep engagement, coaching, workshops, funding and mentor programmes as well as a shoulder to rely on during rough times.

Now, we are looking for a new team member to join us who has a background in entrepreneurship and startups and a strong technical and commercial foundation within energy and climate technologies. 

What is DTU Skylab?  
DTU Skylab is the innovation hub of DTU, a vibrant community in our 5,500 sqm facility in Lyngby. We support diverse activities such as curricular courses, company collaborations, and startup programs. Since 2013, Skylab has been an engaging and inclusive learning space with offices, teaching, event facilities, multiple workshops, and laboratories. 

In 2024, more than 200,000 people went through our doors, we built 356 prototypes in our workshops, we hosted 21 courses and 118 events and supported 399 startup teams.

About the position
As Innovation Partner in DTU Skylab, you will support researchers from DTU Energy and DTU Aqua in building startups based on their groundbreaking research. Your job has many facets centered around supporting and nurturing research projects from early, lab-stage idea until investable business case. 

You will find yourself engaged with discussions about value propositions, product-market-fit and team composition, you will host venture building workshops, support soft funding applications and building pitch decks, participate in mentor meetings, and engage with internal and external stakeholders and much more. 

You will do this together with our team of 10 innovation partners, but you will also be part of the DTU Earthbound team, an initiative to accelerate climate tech startups from DTU’s startup ecosystem. Earthbound offers resources to speed up building deep tech science into startups that fight climate change e.g. by facilitating venture building and connecting teams with external entrepreneurs.

In your role you will be closely connected to researchers and staff in DTU’s innovation ecosystem. You will assist DTU Energy and DTU Aqua’s efforts to foste an innovation culture among faculty and young researchers, scout for technologies with commercial potential, and be part of developing DTU’s innovation and startup activities. 

Primary tasks include:              

  • Support the process of establishing new research-based startups,
  • Be part of DTU Earthbound support venture building of climate tech startups,
  • Facilitate workshops, work with mentors and advisors,
  • Scout for and identify research areas and technologies with potential for commercialization,
  • Promote an innovation culture at the departments,
  • All this will happen in close collaboration with the innovation responsibles at the departments, the team in DTU Skylab and the rest of DTU’s innovation ecosystem.

Who you are
You have an entrepreneurial mindset and might have experience with starting your own companies, or you have worked in the intersection of R&D and BD, commercializing early-stage technologies. You have a strong technical understanding within energy/climate technologies and how to commercialize deep-tech, and you thrive in an environment of teamwork and collaboration across disciplines.
In addition, you:

  • Have min. 5 years of experience with high-tech entrepreneurship, deep-tech commercialization, venture building, e.g. from startups or corporate early tech engagement
  • Have experience with commercialization and business development of research
  • Have solid experience in facilitating startup workshops and/or courses
  • Are a strong team player, result-oriented and self-motivated with a focus on creating value, collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have a relevant higher/long education - e.g. technical, scientific or commercial 
  • Possess strong networking skills, good at meeting new people and see opportunities
  • Experience from working in deep-tech, e.g. within climate, energy – either from startups, universities’ innovation hubs or established companies. 
  • Have excellent communication skills in both Danish and English.

Who we are
In DTU Skylab, we have around 60 employees in three sections, with an informal and caring culture. We can laugh and party whilst also being serious and passionate about what we do. We love our users and talking about the amazing projects in DTU Skylab, from airborne windmills, farming snails, building new sustainable batteries, AI robots and digital services. 

It is a challenging job in a very dynamic environment. You will become a part of a culture and organization in constant, rapid development, and you will have a lot of influence on this development.

Terms of employment
Salary and employment terms are according to the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) or similar. 

Preferable starting date is 1 August 2025.  You will be employed at DTU Skylab, and the workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. 

The team of innovations partners is part of a larger section of around 25 colleagues in total, supporting business development across both students and researchers. You will refer to the Section Head, Stine Kruse.
