The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences seeks Head of Graduate Programme in Surgical Sciences.
Tasks The PhD programme at SUND is organized in thematic and scientifically specialized graduate programmes. All enrolled PhD students are affiliated with a graduate programme at enrolment.
The most important task of the graduate programme is to offer relevant activities within the subject area of the programme such as courses, workshops, summer schools and other academic and social events. The Head of Graduate Programme is responsible for the following activities:
- Ensure that the graduate programme offer the three mandatory activities: onboarding for new PhD students shortly after their enrolment (e-mail/meeting); an annual meeting/summer school/winter school for PhD students (and preferably supervisors); and a network activity (workshop/talk/network and academic-social activity).
- Ensure that the graduate programme offer relevant scientific PhD courses as well as courses/workshops in transferrable skills and career activities relevant to the career paths of PhD students in the graduate programme.
- Should in collaboration with the steering committee encourage PhD supervisors to organize PhD courses and co-ordinate the course activities.
- Should in collaboration with the steering committee inform the PhD students about funding opportunities for courses and application procedures from the Graduate School.
- Strive to achieve that the PhD students affiliated with the programme have the opportunity to complete up to 10 ECTS at courses that are offered by the graduate programme. The Head of Graduate Programme decides which (if any) of the courses that are mandatory and inform the PhD students about this.
- Initiate measures that develop and improve the academic and social environment for the PhD students in the graduate programme, possibly in cooperation with the PhD coordinators. This could be seminars, workshops, journal clubs etc.
- Should in collaboration with the Graduate School take care of the communication with the PhD students regarding internal and external activities that have academic relevance.
- Participate in meetings and seminars with the Graduate School concerning further development of the graduate programmes and the overall PhD programme at SUND.
- Be part of the committee that advise the Vice-Dean for Research and the Head of Graduate School on PhD education.
- Participate in onboarding and introduction of new Heads of Graduate Programmes.
The Head of Graduate Programme is also encouraged to pursue the following activities:
- Establish cooperation with other graduate programmes at the faculty to ensure synergy across graduate programmes.
- Establish cooperation and networks with graduate programmes at other universities.
- Further the internationalization of the graduate programme by, amongst other things, increasing the international cooperation and exchange of PhD students.
Qualifications The Head of the Graduate Programme should be a researcher with substantial knowledge within the area of the programme. You must be a clinical Professor at University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, it is important to have experience and insight into the PhD education.
Terms of salary and employment Employment will be in accordance with the provision of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The employment is as chief consultant (Chefkonsulent/AC-TAP) at 3,5 hours per week.
The employment starts as soon as possible and until further notice.
