Would you like to join an international institution motivated to make a positive global difference, mitigating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)? Then you might be our new Communications Officer.



About ICARS

The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) is a growing, young organisation with a mission to develop evidence-based solutions to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR). We are based in Copenhagen, Denmark and have a global reach, providing financing and technical support to LMICs. Working in partnership with ministries, national institutions, and international partners, ICARS’ intervention and implementation research-focused projects support the countries in implementing National Action Plans on AMR and strengthening capacity. We also engage in global policy forums on AMR mitigation in the global health and development context.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing organisation. We work across the human, animal, agrifood and environmental sectors with a One Health approach. About the position

As Communications Officer, you will play a significant role in our team, supporting implementation of the communications strategy, developing and refining external messaging, writing collateral (brochures, reports, slides etc.), creating and uploading content to the website and social media channels, increasing ICARS’ visibility to wider global audiences and stakeholders, and supporting the dissemination of technical information and project results. You will also facilitate internal communication and manage our SharePoint site as well as ICARS’ Learning Platform, Canvas.

Your main tasks:

  • Maintain and support the further development of our website (WordPress) and Learning Platform
  • Plan and execute social media activities (X, Bluesky & LinkedIn) to promote ICARS’ activities
  • Create marketing materials (brochures, reports, articles etc.)
  • Work closely with Partnerships colleagues to support advocacy and outreach activities
  • Support the planning of webinars, conferences and events
  • Maintain good working relationships with communication leads at partner organisations, such as foundations, governments, international organisations, and research institutions
  • Provide ad-hoc communications support to international project teams
  • Support dissemination of results and knowledge sharing, which includes translating technical information into messaging to policymakers and the general public.


Your background, professional and personal qualifications

As our new Communications Officer, you have a master's degree in communications or equivalent and more than 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably from a position that involves communication of science and research information. You bring expertise in developing and executing on the milestones of a communication strategy. It is important that you have experience with creating channel-appropriate impactful content, high-quality writing, and running social media accounts

Professional skills

  • Ability to communicate complex material to different audiences using a variety of formats
  • Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines and communicating clearly with colleagues and stakeholders on progress and when plans change
  • Fluency in English (English is our working language)
  • Strong IT skills (Office, WordPress, SharePoint)
  • Experience designing reports, infographics and written outputs using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

Terms of employment

The position is full time, and a 3-year contract is offered.

ICARS is located on the campus of Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen S. You will be working from here but with the possibility to work from home up to two days pr. week.

Salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten). The position will be classified as a “fuldmægtig”.
