At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment (BUILD), a permanent position as associate professor in Universal Design is open for appointment in the Division of Town, Housing and Property in Copenhagen from 1st of November 2025.
The Department of the Built Environment is Denmark's largest department in construction, civil engineering, and the built environment. The research at BUILD is rooted in the field of engineering, but it also contains important and comprehensive elements from the social sciences and the humanities.
The position is available in the Universal Design Research Group at the Division of Town, Housing and Property.
The Universal Design Research Group conducts research on how the built environment can be inclusive and health-promoting for everyone regardless of age, gender, abilities, and ethnicity. In addition, the group has developed and run www.rumsans.dk – a website in Danish about Universal Design.

Job description
The work involves research including development of research ideas, fundraising, management of research projects, and dissemination e.g. at the website Rumsans. In addition, there will be associated research-based government services and assistance in the preparation of directions. The candidate is moreover expected to take a lead role in teaching at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. In particular, the applicant will contribute to the teaching and supervision activities in the division, including at the program ‘Bæredygtige Byggeprocesser’.
Qualification requirements
We imagine that you are a qualified architect, landscape architect, or has an interdisciplinary background that combines health and the built environment. Furthermore, we expect you to have knowledge of the actors and processes within the Danish construction industry. It is an advantage if you have experience with international collaboration.
Candidates should have the ability to work in a team as well as independently and be good at networking. You must be able to work with public authorities, interest organizations and representatives of the sector in a multidisciplinary research environment. Furthermore, this includes taking leadership in planning and executing international and national multidisciplinary research projects.
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.
It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications
The candidate must have excellent knowledge of English and Danish (written and spoken).
