Our research
At the intersection between SILA at Ilisimatusarfik and the Arctic research environment at Globe we aim to build and develop a research environment that fosters and inspires new insights into the interaction between human and nature in the Arctic across time and space. The collaboration is founded in a shared understanding of Equitable partnerships to equally serve the interests of all partners. They are built on equitable power relations. With this understanding, we wish to employ a strength-based framework for collaboration.

Position
The job is part of a series of projects focused on the indigenous dogs of Greenland. The Qimmeq Project initiated in 2016 has strived to build an interdisciplinary collaborative research environment with the objective of examining the role of dogs in Greenland in the past, present, and future. To this Qimmeq initiative we have now added two additional projects centring around the dogs of South Greenland originating from two distinct cultures; the Inuit and the Norse. These two projects will explore the independent genomic histories of the dog populations as well as examining potential interactions between the two. The position will involve close collaboration with external institutions, such as the National Museum and Archives of Greenland, and teaching within the scope of the SILA programme at Ilisimatusarfik. It is in this context we post this assistant professor position.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors
