At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production, a position as Assistant Professor in Biomechanics is open for appointment from 01.05.2026 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of two years.

Your work tasks    
The job mainly concerns participation in development of the biomechanical field through design and execution of projects on the forefront of research. The candidate should contribute to extension of the activities in the Biomechanics Research Group, especially in the context of Aalborg University’s strategy “Knowledge for the World” and the university’s mission “Improving Health Through Coherence and Individualisation”.

The job will entail extensive research fundraising and participation in a strategic effort to ensure that the research field of biomechanical digital twins becomes a sustainable part of the Biomechanics Research Group’s portfolio.

The candidate will participate in the teaching tasks in the mechanical engineering education in general and in the biomechanical engineering specialization in particular. The candidate must have completed the university’s formal pedagogical training by the end of the assistant professorship at the latest.

Your competencies   
The candidate should demonstrate fundamental skills in mathematics, mechanical physics, biomechanics, musculoskeletal simulation with the AnyBody Modeling System, experimental methods, such as motion capture, electromyography, inertial measurement units, advanced data processing, numerical methods, optimization procedures, statistics, research ethics and management of personal data.

Experience in the development of physiological digital twins, the use of different medical imaging modalities and the in vivo and/or in vitro mechanical testing of human tissues and structures will be considered an advantage, while the existence of a strong international network is highly desirable.

Documented experience with fundraising from national and international research foundations is a prerequisite.

The successful candidate should demonstrate teaching experience within STEM fields in general, biomechanics and mechanics, and experience with teaching and student supervision within the problem-based learning model. Read more here.

Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

The Biomechanics Research Group is a vibrant and busy environment with two full professors, one associate professor and a variable number of assistant professors, post docs and PhD students. The group is particularly renowned for its contributions to musculoskeletal simulation.

The Department of Materials and Production (MP) is a wide-ranging research and educational environment at Aalborg University. The Department's mission is to meet the future's demands for new materials and production systems by directing the whole value chain from basic material understanding to materials' applications in mechanical construction, industrial production, and management. The department has several strong, international, and innovative research groups that range from basic science to strategic and applied research. Specifically in relation to this position, we have facilities for synthesis and characterization of materials covering the range from the atomic scale in the cleanroom and materials labs to fabrication of components and devices.
