SDU Life Cycle Engineering (SDU LCE) invites applications for a position as assistant professor in Biochemical Engineering. The position is available 01 January 2026 or as soon as possible hereafter.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to engage in research falling within or in strong synergy with the following areas at SDU LCE related to (Bio)processes:
Carbon capture and utilization in the context of Power-to-X
Biorefinery and biofuels process development
Integration of renewable power with biofuels and biochemical production—Power-to-X
Analytical chemistry, HPLC, GC, MS, Spectroscopy
Fermentation technology and anaerobic digestion
The successful candidate is expected to initiate and obtain funding for internationally competitive research activities. Commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is also expected. The position thus holds a high level of responsibility, but also comes with influence and opportunity to develop and deliver research and education to the highest international level.
SDU LCE is part of the Department of Green Technology (IGT), at the Faculty of Engineering at SDU.
Qualifications
The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline relevant to this position. In addition, some years of experience as postdoc is preferred.
The candidate is expected to have experience within:
Biotechnology for carbon capture and utilization
Research in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
Attracting competitive research funding
Collaborating with companies/industry, and public sector
A strong international collaboration experience, a highly interdisciplinary mind-set, and experience in innovation, will be highly valued.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as assistant professor is temporary and for an initial 4-year period, and the preferred start date is from 1. January 2026.
Employment as assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at minimum PhD level at the time of employment. During employment, the assistant professor will complete the Lecturer Training Programme.
Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for assistant professor as described herein. Persons employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial evaluation, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organizer”.
