We are seeking an experienced practitioner with extensive instrumentation expertise, chemical insight, and a strong overview of practical analytical work to take on a versatile role focusing particularly on method development and infrastructure support.
The Department of Science and Environment is one of four departments at Roskilde University. The department conducts basic and applied research within medical biology, molecular biology, environmental science, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. It is organized into four sections: Molecular & Medical Biology, Environmental Dynamics, Mathematics & Physics, and Chemistry. The department offers two bachelor’s programs and five master’s programs.
We are looking for an academic employee to join our laboratories — someone who enjoys working as part of a team of dedicated colleagues supporting the department’s research and teaching activities. You will become part of the department’s laboratory team, which supports all sections. Your primary base will be in the Environmental Dynamics section, with close collaboration with the Chemistry section.
Tasks and QualificationsYour main responsibilities will include:
- Maintenance (including troubleshooting and repairs) of existing and new scientific analytical instruments, as well as overseeing the department’s instrument inventory at a strategic level in close collaboration with the laboratory technicians.
- Development and implementation of new analyses and methods, in close scientific collaboration with research groups and laboratory staff.
- Performing chemical and biochemical analyses, particularly using ICP-MS, ICP-OES, FTIR, LC-MS, GC-MS, LC-MSMS.
- Experimental preparation and method evaluation.
- Supporting laboratory-based teaching activities, including course and project instruction.
- Contributing to the coordination and prioritization of laboratory work in collaboration with the department’s researchers and laboratory colleagues.
Because we are a department with a flat organizational structure and close collaboration between different staff groups, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks.
We emphasize that you:
- Hold a relevant degree — e.g., a master’s in a natural science or technical field such as chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, or similar.
- Are professionally strong and ambitious within analytical chemistry, and able to communicate your expertise clearly.
- Have practical experience and interest in ICP-MS, ICP-OES, FTIR, LC-MS, and GC-MS, including implementation and optimization of analytical methods.
- Have experience with advanced analytical instruments such as Orbitrap 240 or LC-qTOF systems (an advantage, but not a requirement).
- Experience with non-target analysis is an advantage, but not required.
- Are technically skilled — and not afraid to perform minor equipment repairs, but aware of your own limits.
- Work independently and systematically and can maintain an overview when things get busy.
- Are service-minded and enjoy providing guidance and assistance to both students and colleagues.
- Have good Danish and English communication skills, enabling you to work with both Danish and English-speaking staff and students. Alternatively, if you don’t have sufficient skills in one of the languages, you are required to acquire them after employment.
- Find it exciting to take on a wide range of tasks related to both instrumentation and general laboratory operations.
- Are curious, proactive, and have strong collaboration skills. You must be able to work closely with laboratory technicians, technical staff, students, and researchers.
We offer:
- An exciting and varied position in an active, international research and teaching environment characterized by strong collaboration among engaged researchers, laboratory technicians, and students from Denmark and abroad.
- A team of skilled and experienced colleagues.
- Varied, diverse, and challenging tasks — with opportunities to influence workflows and procedures.
- Opportunities to work across disciplines.
- Membership in a valued laboratory team where collaboration is central.
- A workplace that prioritizes well-being and collegiality. We care about the individual employee while maintaining a strong sense of community.
