The Section of Biostatistics conducts general biostatistical research and methodological development in biostatistics, undertakes teaching of students at various educations, undergraduate as well as postgraduate, and offers biostatistical advice to staff and students in all disciplines of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The Section of Biostatistics furthermore hosts a hub of the Pioneer Centre for SMARTbiomed focusing on methodological causal inference research applicable to common complex diseases. The Copenhagen Health Complexity Center is a newly established research center. The Center leverages multi-layered nationwide social and health data combined with an interdisciplinary fusion of methods spanning data science, epidemiology, ethnography, econometrics, and systems science. The research focuses on the complex interplay of health, social, and environmental factors that shape individuals, families, and networks over time. Job description The Associate Professor must participate in the research environments both at the Section of Biostatistics (including the Pioneer Centre for SMARTbiomed) and the Copenhagen Health Complexity Center. The candidate must contribute to bridging these units through interdisciplinary collaborations and joint supervision of PhD students/postdocs. We are looking for a candidate who will advance our joint research theme on
causal discovery, both in terms of methodological, translational and applied epidemiological research. Experience with working with data from Danish registers and from Danish cohort studies is an advantage.
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
In addition to this, the successful candidate is expected to work on attracting research funding and participate in the various administrative tasks of the Section of Biostatistics and the Copenhagen Health Complexity Center. As our teaching portfolio includes a large volume of courses in applied statistics for health scientists, experience with this type of cross-disciplinary teaching will be an advantage.

Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:
- Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways.
- A strong record of original scientific research in theory and applications of biostatistics at a high international level must be documented through publications, statistical software or other tangible activities. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to do interdisciplinary research.
- Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies.
- Research-based teaching.
The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
Terms of employment The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 6 years.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post.
