The University seeks to appoint an associate professor or professor to the Department of Public Health to commence as soon as possible.

The position is based at the Global Health Section, Department of Public Health. The research and expertise of the Global Health Section cover a range of interrelated global health challenges and solutions with a strong focus on health equity, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Our current research areas include communicable and non-communicable diseases, global mental health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, humanitarian action and disaster, as well as health systems and health workforce research. We place significant emphasis on transdisciplinary and inter-sectoral research involving elements of educational-, institutional-, and research-capacity strengthening.

The Section is primarily responsible for two educational programs: a Master of Science in Global Health and a professional Master in Disaster Management, both taught in English. The Section staff also teach and supervise across the Department of Public Health and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The Section is a highly interdisciplinary workplace with great focus on collegiality, teamwork, diversity, and mutual support.

Job description

We are looking to hire an associate professor or professor who can strengthen our research and teaching within the fields of health professions education, digital higher education, or both.

With a focus on both low- and high-income contexts, the associate professor or professor will work with colleagues on topics such as digitally mediated learning, educational technologies, and the digital transformation of health professions education.

The associate professor or professor is expected to contribute actively to collaborative research projects and engage in educational and organizational activities at the section and department level.

When considering applications, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document original scientific work at an international level within the areas of health professions education and/or digital higher education.

The associate professor or professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Engaging in international collaborative projects aimed at mutual capacity strengthening within health professions education
  • Academic assessments
Required qualifications
To be qualified for an associate professor or professor position, you will be assessed according to these six overall criteria for recognising merit at the University of Copenhagen: Research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding, and leadership. Applicants for either position must be able to document:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills, including the ability to work in transdisciplinary and intercultural teams
  • Experience from capacity strengthening collaboration with institutions in the global south
  • Strong international network within the fields of digital higher education and/or health professions education
  • Proven track record of securing research funds from institutional and/or private entities
  • Excellent English skills
  • Research-based teaching
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
For applicants for the associate professor position each applicant must furthermore be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Examples of high impact publications in leading research journals
For applicants for the professor position each applicant must furthermore be able to document:

  • A high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline, with a track record of high impact publications in leading research journals
  • Ability to manage research activities and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities
Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.

Please note that selected applicants who have applied for either both positions or the professor position will be assessed for the associate professor position if they are found not-qualified for the professor position.

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee, and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
