It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the senior scientist position
. In order to be considered for the position, the applicant must send two applications: one to the faculty (the professorship) and one to SSI (the veterinary virologist) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the consultancy. This also applies to applicants who are already employed at the University of Copenhagen or SSI.
The Danish Veterinary Consortium (DK-VET) is a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and SSI for the performance of the veterinary public service to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration under the Ministry of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries (FVM).
The Danish Veterinary Consortium provides research, consultancy services, diagnosis and laboratory analyses in connection with the monitoring and control of approximately 80 different livestock diseases. Public sector consultancy includes everything from disease surveillance and handling of specific emergency tasks, e.g. including suspected disease outbreaks to assistance in the form of risk assessments, research projects, questions from the Minister, etc.
Job description When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of Veterinary Virology with a special focus on severe contagious livestock diseases such as African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease. In particular, a high level of research activity within diagnostic, pathogenicity and control of severe livestock diseases should be documented. The professorship will be anchored in the Veterinary and Zoonotic Virology group within the section of Bacteria and Viruses at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, which addresses broadly aspects of prevention and control of veterinary, zoonotic and foodborne infectious diseases.
The professor is expected to contribute to teaching of veterinary students within the area severe contagious livestock diseases and to contribute to scientific advice to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration within the area.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Applying for external research funding research
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research-based public-sector consultancy
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate

Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:
- Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
- Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
- Provide research-based teaching
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
Terms of employment The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 5 years.
The average weekly working hours are 7,4 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

Application procedure After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post.
