  • Alsion 1, 6400 Sønderborg

The Mads Clausen Institute, Center for Advanced Photovoltaics and Thin-Film Energy Devices (SDU CAPE) invites applications for a fully-funded Postdoc position in ‘Organic photovoltaic cells and modules for indoor and outdoor applications using Roll-to-Roll (R2R) based techniques’. The starting date is Oct. 1st 2025 for a 3-year period with possibility for extension if economy permits.

The postdoc position is a part of the Roll-to-Roll (R2R) activities within the new SDU CAPE research center, which aims to develop new sustainable photovoltaics and energy technologies using scalable and green processing techniques. This includes activities within scalable Sheet-to-Sheet (S2S) and Roll-to-Roll (R2R) coating processes for thin films and photovoltaic devices using both solution as well as vacuum-based coating techniques, to push the limits of photovoltaics performance from industrial compatible techniques. The position will be part of the European EFFECTOR project, which focuses on developing highly efficient and sustainable organic solar cells and modules for powering digital and wearable electronics using low-intensity light. Most of your working time is devoted to your own research studies. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to develop your own research ideas and communicate scientific results in high-ranking journals.

What we expect

Candidates who have a previous PhD degree in a field relevant to the mentioned postdoc project may seek the fellowships (material science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering and similar). Preferred candidates have experience with some of the following: thin films fabrication and characterization, Sheet-to-Sheet and Roll-to-Roll coating technology, light-management for photovoltaics, thin film organic solar cells and modules, photovoltaic device physics. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidates are expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required.

Workplace description / Research environment
We are an international research center working in the field of green energy technologies (CAPE), and we are looking for a highly motivated postdoc fellow to join our CAPE research center at University of Southern Denmark (SDU), campus Sønderborg, in development of next-generation sustainable and high performance photovoltaics. We offer a modern, inclusive, international and interdisciplinary working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition of international collaboration. Our ambition is, to recruit, develop, and retain talented scholars committed to both academic excellence and departmental development.

Having a focus on green energy technologies - improving performance, device stability and up-scaling, the center has full access to an ISOS5 cleanroom and surface science laboratory facility for the preparation and characterization of thin films and photovoltaic devices, as well as a fully equipped Roll-to-Roll (R2R) facility for upscaling flexible devices. Our research center CAPE is a partner in various national and international research projects and networks that include collaboration partners from both academia and industry.
