Postdoc of Gamma-ray spectroscopy to examine the hydrological response of forests
  • KU - SCIENCE - IGN
  • Nørre Campus, Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 Kbh. K
The Green Tripartite Agreement, established to address the growing climate and biodiversity crises, includes a commitment to plant 1 billion trees in Denmark. This Postdoctoral project aims to assess how this large-scale afforestation will impact the hydrological system, with the dual goals of ensuring successful forest establishment and supporting sustainable water resource management.

To achieve this, the candidate will collect innovative measurements of water balance components, including percolation using lysimeters and plot-scale soil moisture using gamma-ray spectroscopy (GRS) at six different locations distributed across the country. The ideal candidate should have a background in unsaturated zone hydrology and expertise in passive high-energy particle methods, such as GRS and the cosmic ray neutron method. Furthermore, because the project relies on high-accuracy field measurements, the candidate must have documented extensive field experience, be capable of working independently in diverse field conditions, and be willing to travel regularly between field sites. A driver’s license would therefore be an advantage.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within the field of hydrology as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.
