At The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Aalborg University, one PhD stipend in statistics for medical research is open for appointment from Aug 1, 2026 or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is three years.

The PhD stipend will be in statistical and causal modelling of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that are chronic, non-transmissible conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer) using, for example, data from registries and/or biobanks.

The research will be performed in close collaboration with Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA), The Faculty of Medicine. Aalborg University.


Your work tasks
Your work tasks will be to perform statistical and causal modelling of health outcomes using health registries and/or genetic information from biobanks. This includes engaging with researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.


Your competencies 
You must have a mathematical/statistical degree with knowledge of causal modelling as well as experience in working with genetic data and biobanks.

Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1124 of September 19, 2025 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. As part of the PhD study, you are among other things required to complete PhD courses corresponding to 30 ECTS, gain experience with teaching or other forms of knowledge dissemination and complete an external research stay outside of Aalborg University, preferably 3-6 months at a foreign research institution.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences conducts research in a wide range of mathematical disciplines. This includes both fundamental and applied research in statistics (e.g., statistical methods for forensics, life sciences, topological data analysis, spatial statistics, and computational statistics). Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA) is an interdisciplinary research center at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital. At CLINDA, the research focus is on the development and implementation of clinical AI, bioinformatics and biostatistics, and methodological development within the field of data science.
