The Department of Neuroscience is seeking an engaged Laboratory Operations Manager. The position is permanent at 32 hours per week, with the possibility of full-time by mutual agreement, and has a start date of 1 June 2026 or as soon as possible.
About us The Department of Neuroscience is home to a vibrant community of academic and technical staff as well as students, distributed across many active research groups working in systems and molecular neuroscience. The department conducts internationally recognized research in these areas and is also responsible for teaching neuroscience and pharmacology to medical students, dental students, and students in human biology, molecular biomedicine, and related programs.
Within the department, we are a young and expanding research community consisting of the groups led by Carmelo Bellardita, Alexander Walter, Peter Petersen, Freja Herborg, Mikkel Vestergaard and Celia Kjærby. Our groups perform
in vivo research in rodents and flies and share laboratory space, infrastructure, and experimental approaches. We place strong emphasis on collaboration, openness, and community building, and we are motivated by developing shared solutions that strengthen both research quality and daily laboratory life.

https://in.ku.dk/ Your responsibilities As our Laboratory Operations Manager, you will play a central role in shaping and supporting our interdisciplinary research community. Working across six research groups sharing laboratory space and resources, you will help build a collaborative environment that enhances communication, aligns workflows, and supports efficient research practices.
A key responsibility is onboarding and training new students and researchers in shared laboratory procedures, equipment use, and compliance with safety laws and legal standards. You will also help streamline common experimental workflows - from sterile rodent surgeries and perfusions to molecular biology and genotyping - by aligning protocols, equipment, training, and documentation.
You will work closely with research scientists, students, and technical and veterinary staff to establish shared standards for equipment use, data and sample handling, booking systems and rodent management and licenses to ensure smoother experimental flow.
The role can include participation in hands-on experimental work (e.g., molecular biology, histology, and in vivo rodent and Drosophila experiments), supporting both research execution and knowledge transfer within the shared laboratory.
Your profile We are looking for a motivated, independent, and collaborative person, who is enthusiastic about helping build and sustain a strong research community. While we are aware that you might not possess all skills listed, training can be offered for the right candidate.
Your professional qualifications involve:
- Educational background as either a MSc within biomedical sciences, as a biomedical laboratory scientist or as a laboratory technician.
- Experience working independently while maintaining excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Experience in laboratory organization, coordination, and management within an academic or industrial research setting
- Being resilient, adaptable, and able to prioritize tasks in a dynamic research environment
- Experience in sharing knowledge and training students in experimental techniques
- Experience in implementing and developing new laboratory procedures and workflows
- Proficient in English, written and spoken (Danish is an advantage, but not necessary)
- Hold a FELASA experimentation license and have knowledge of ethical guidelines and safety protocols for animal research
- Experience in rodent or fly handling, dissections, surgical procedures and perfusions is a plus
- Experience in molecular techniques (PCR, immunohistochemical stainings and similar) is a plus
We value candidates who are eager to take ownership of their role, contribute actively to shaping daily laboratory operations, and who are motivated to grow with the research community while playing a key role in its long-term development.
