Five highly motivated and dynamic postdoc positions in gravitational physics at the Niels Bohr Institute
  • KU – SCIENCE – NBI, Blegdamsvej
  • Blegdamsvej 17, 2100 Kbh. Ø
We are looking for five (5) highly motivated and dynamic postdocs for two and three-year postdoctoral positions in gravitational physics within the activities of the Center of Gravity at the Niels Bohr Institute.

Preferred starting dates:
Two Postdocs from the 1st September 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of three years.
Two Postdocs form the 1st of September 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of two years.
One Postdoc from the 1st of June 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of two years and three months.

We seek international outstanding individuals eager to join an ambitious research program addressing the physics of black holes, gravitational motion using both advanced quantum field scattering and gravitational self-force techniques, black hole spectroscopy, quantum aspects of spacetime via string theory and holography, and the effect of environments in gravitational wave physics.

Information on the Center can be found here.

The Center of Gravity is a center for new ideas about the foundations of physics. We bring together cutting-edge research in observations of black holes and in the formal theory of relativistic and quantum aspects of gravity, completing the visions of Bohr and Einstein for the gravitational interaction. Our research endeavor spans from data analysis to theoretical disciplines within astrophysics and high-energy physics, and we aim to drive gravitational-wave physics to an exciting future. We have our physical home in the beautiful and legendary building at Blegdamsvej 17, established by Niels Bohr. This is the place where quantum theory was born and where many exciting new developments in gravity are now taking place. Today, the Niels Bohr Institute carries an important legacy in physics and is one of the leading institutes in theoretical and experimental physics. At the Center of Gravity, we hope to carry on the pioneering spirit that has defined our predecessors at the Niels Bohr Institute through trailblazing and fundamental research.

The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes all qualified individuals regardless of personal background. Postdoctoral Fellows at the University of Copenhagen receive a competitive salary (including pension) and funds for travel and computing. Generous parental leave, state-subsidized childcare, vacation, and full medical care are provided to employees in Denmark. A favorable tax scheme is generally granted to international researchers.

Your job
Your task will be to conduct state of the art research in gravitational physics, and to help making the Center of Gravity one of the most attractive places for research in gravity. Postdoctoral Fellows and Assistant Professors at the Center of Gravity at the Niels Bohr Institute have the opportunity to guide more junior fellows, teach courses at various levels, participate in outreach activities, and organize international meetings.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Physics
  • You are highly experienced in either Numerical Relativity or the two-body problem at large, in environmental effects in strong-field regions or theories of quantum gravity.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below.
