We are seeking to appoint a Director of the Genomics Platform (GP).
The GP is a genomics core facility at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. GP has an ambitious vision to boost genomics research and innovation across the life sciences ecosystem through open-access, high-quality functional genomics services.
Description of this position:
We are seeking a highly experienced genomics core facility leader to create a strategic development plan for a functional genomics core facility, raise funding for this initiative, and evolve the GP into an open-access, cutting-edge technology platform with a diverse and high-quality service portfolio and comprehensive training opportunities. This role includes operational management, strategic steering, technological focus, and a mission towards long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead an international team of experts
Manage GP as a state-of-the-art functional genomics core facility
Develop and maintain a strategic plan to provide open-access functional genomics services
Ensure professional development and staff well-being (personnel management responsibilities)
Secure funding to establish, sustain, and continually upgrade services and technologies
Engage with stakeholders to drive technology and methods development in alignment with a strategic implementation plan
Integrate new technologies and methods and improve workflows and user experience
Collaborate with other platform managers to implement policies for quality assurance, safety, and excellence in user support.
Guide the facility team to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment
Provide user training, project advice, and research supervision in the broad genomics field
Provide national and international leadership in research technologies to support collaborations, partnerships, and fundraising opportunities
Qualification criteria:
The main emphasis will be on the candidate’s ability to combine a solid track record in functional genomics, genomics technologies, and methodologies with a broad, strategic vision for the development of the Genomics Platform.
In particular, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in management and leadership at a genomics platform, offering various genomics methods, services, and training for a diverse research community. Further emphasis will be placed on the candidate's relevant competence in developing a genomics core facility and a comprehensive service portfolio.
Ph.D. and post-doc experience in biological sciences, genetics, or genomics
Managerial competence and a minimum of 8 years of experience in a genomics core facility
Track record in scientific research through peer-reviewed publications
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate complex technical concepts
Substantial background in genomics project management and laboratory service provision, such as sequencing services and diverse library preparation methods
Significant training experience both on equipment and laboratory procedures, as well as implementation of methods
Experience working in an international research environment
You will be employed as a Senior Consultant with personnel management.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
