A 3-year position as Assistant Professor is available starting from July 1st 2026 or soon after this date.
The Assistant Professor will be expected to contribute to three research projects:
The first project is:
Drug Wholesaling Careers: A Registry-study of Life-course Trajectories into and out of Wholesale of Illegal Drugs.
Based on a life-course criminology perspective, this project uses register data to explore broader life-course and criminal trajectories among individuals involved in serious drug supply in Denmark. The project is led by Associate Professor Thomas Friis Søgaard.
The second project is:
Opioid use among young people in Denmark – rethinking opioid agonist treatment.
This project involves a focus on treatment course and trajectories, based on register data and MapPlan/TEM and is led by Associate Professor Birgitte Thylstrup.
The third project is;
Prevention of hazardous use of alcohol among high school students: a randomized controlled trial. In this project we examine the effectiveness of three interventions in about 3000 high school students, followed with five survey waves in their first year of high school. The project is led by Professor Kristine Rømer Thomsen.
Your tasks and opportunities- Responsible for analysing data across the projects (including register data, survey data, and data from MapPlan/TEM). This includes advanced analyses of longitudinal data and linking between survey and register data. You will also be expected to help more junior colleagues on the projects.
- Responsible for writing scientific articles as first-author, and for contributing as co-author on scientific articles in the projects.
- Present results at national and international research conferences and at national seminars for practitioners
About the applicantThe applicant is required to have a background in psychology, public health or criminology. The applicant is required to have vast experience with register and survey-based research within the alcohol and drug research field, as well as some knowledge on MapPlan.
Furthermore, the applicant is required to have vast experience with advanced statistical analyses, including longitudinal data and linking between survey and register data. Finally, the applicant is expected to be able to work both independently and to collaborate in larger cross-disciplinary research teams.
Given that the applicant is going to be part of several research projects, it is important be good at managing timelines and resources spent on each project.
Qualification requirementsAppointment as Assistant Professor requires scientific qualifications at the PhD level.

Who are we?Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research is an interdisciplinary social science research center. Our research focuses on treatment, prevention, policy, drug markets and recreational use. We study both legal and illegal substances. The Centre is interdisciplinary, and researchers have backgrounds in anthropology, psychology, sociology, criminology, political science and public health. Our task is to conduct research projects, provide education, disseminate knowledge about alcohol and substance use, and collaborate with national stakeholders as well as international research institutions.
