The IT University of Copenhagen invites highly motivated individuals to apply for an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) or Associate Professor position starting in September 2026 or soon thereafter.

Job description
The positions will be anchored in the Digital Business & Innovation (DBI) section. DBI brings together research on digital technologies, organizational processes, and human actors to address contemporary digitalization challenges in the private and public sectors. The section currently consists of 13 members, including faculty at all career stages, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and research support staff. DBI faculty publish in premier IS journals (e.g., JMIS, JAIS, EJIS, JSIS) and in top journals of adjacent disciplines (e.g., Empirical Software Engineering, Organizational Studies).

The DBI section also hosts the BUILD Lab as a hub for research, education, and engagement with practice. ITU comprises nine research sections, and DBI maintains close collaborations across the university, offering a vibrant intellectual environment for interdisciplinary research that connects information systems research to data science, organizational studies, software engineering, and other areas.


The two positions are intended to strengthen ITU’s research and teaching in one or more of the following three areas: (1) digital platforms & digital transformation, (2) business analytics and AI in organizations, and (3) digital process innovation. Applicants are expected to have a clear research profile in at least one of these areas; overlap across areas is welcome but not required:


(1) Digital Platforms & Digital Transformation

Research and teaching in this area examine how digital platforms and large-scale digital infrastructures shape organizations, work practices, and transformation processes. Applicants are expected to have a strong profile in one or more of the following topics:

  • Digital platform ecosystems, including enterprise software platforms, complementor relationships, value creation mechanisms, and the evolution of platform architectures
  • Platform-mediated work and everyday use of platforms, including informal, emergent, and situated work practices around digital platforms
  • Organizational and humanistic consequences of platformization, including algorithmic coordination and platform-based forms of organizing
  • Digital transformation at the organizational or industry level, including the reconfiguration of organizational capabilities, value chains, or inter-organizational collaboration enabled by digital technologies

(2) Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence in Organizations
Research and teaching in this area examine how data, analytics, and artificial intelligence are developed, implemented, and used in organizational and managerial contexts. Applicants are expected to have a strong profile in one or more of the following topics:

  • Organizational use of AI and algorithmic systems, including task automation, augmentation, and coordination in professional and managerial work
  • Business analytics and data-driven decision-making, including how analytical and AI-based solutions are designed, embedded, and used in organizational decision processes
  • Human–AI interaction and collaboration, including how humans evaluate, adapt to, and work with AI-based systems in organizational settings
  • Responsible and effective use of analytics and AI, including issues of transparency, accountability, trust, fairness, and decision quality in organizational contexts
(3) Digital Process Innovation
Research and teaching in this area examine how digital technologies enable the redesign, evolution, automation, and augmentation of organizational processes and routines over time. Applicants are expected to have a strong profile in one or more of the following topics:

  • Digital process innovation, including process redesign, recombination, emergence, and continuous change enabled by digital technologies
  • Automation and augmentation of organizational processes, including the use of digital tools, AI-based systems, and digital infrastructures to support, transform, or partially replace human activities
  • Organizational processes and routines, including process dynamics, coordination, control, and change in digitally mediated organizational settings
  • Processual perspectives on digital work and innovation, including how processes unfold over time across organizational boundaries, actors, and technologies
Across all three areas, candidates may employ quantitative, qualitative, mixed-method, or design-oriented research approaches. Interdisciplinary research drawing on information systems, organization studies, management, data science, or related fields is encouraged but not required.

The successful candidates are expected to deliver excellent research-based teaching within ITU’s bachelor’s and master’s programmes, primarily in English. The candidates will be expected to teach primarily within the BSc Global Business Informatics, the MSc Digital Innovation & Management, the Industry MSc in Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, and relevant professional courses. Exemplary courses include but are not limited to Process Innovation, Digital Innovation, Enterprise Systems & Platform Ecosystems, Digital Organizing & Transformation, Business Process Improvement & Automation, Quantitative Methods & Business Analytics, Managing Business Analytics & Data-Driven Decision Making, and AI in Organizations.


In addition, for the Associate Professor position, candidates should be able to:

  • Attract external research funding
  • Supervise PhD students
  • Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish)

Salary and terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at universities.

At the Associate Professor level, successful candidates will be offered a permanent position.

Information about the Tenure-Track Programme
After a maximum of a six-year Tenure-Track period, Tenure-Track Assistant Professors are expected to meet the criteria for appointment of Associate Professors at the IT University of Copenhagen.
If given a positive academic assessment at the end of the Tenure-Track Programme, you will be transferred to a permanent Associate Professor position.

For candidates applying for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor position:

  • Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position

For candidates applying for the Associate Professor position:

  • Copies of max. 5 different publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues that are relevant to the position (the publications should be numbered)
  • Documentation of university pedagogy training, and your teaching philosophy statement along with a teaching record relevant to the position. The teaching record should (at least for each course) include your official responsibility, the size of the course, the academic level, how many times a course has been taught, and the number of students. Include max. 5 course descriptions to document the experience.
  • A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.

The applicant will be assessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
