The Plant-PATH center and the Pedersen group at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark, are looking for a highly skilled and motivated assistant professor with expertise in molecular dynamics simulations on membrane proteins. The position is advertised for 2 years of employment and with a start date in October 2026.

Job description


The position is intended to strengthen the Plant-PATH (Center for Active Transport of Plant Hormones) by providing expertise in molecular dynamics simulations applied to plant membrane transporters, elucidating the underlying biophysical mechanisms of hormone transport. The selected candidate will work closely with the laboratory of Bjørn Pedersen at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University.


Your profile


We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated assistant professor with an interest in working on plant membrane proteins using in silico methods for exploring protein conformational landscape, with a focus on molecular dynamics simulations.

The candidate must have:
  • A proven track record in the area of molecular dynamics simulations with experience in working on membrane proteins.
  • A history of peer-reviewed publications in the relevant field

A successful candidate has
  • A relevant Ph.D. degree and a documented background in molecular biology and biochemistry.
  • Experience in performing and analysing molecular dynamics simulations. Proficiency in Python or comparable programming language is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising students (on a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level), building and maintaining collaborations, and independently leading research projects.

Who we are

Situated in a newly renovated laboratory complex within the central campus of Aarhus University, The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics comprises a vibrant research and education environment. The department currently has 75 full time scientific staff, 95 PhD students and a yearly uptake of around 160 students housed in the same building ensuring a lively setting.

The department has access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing (HPC) facilities, including Center for Scientific Computing Aarhus (CSCAA) and GenomeDK. Applying for other computing resources on European HPCs (i.e., LUMI through DeiC) is supported.

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. Formalities and salary range


Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
