One or more positions as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Construction Management and Building Informatics are open at the Department of the Built Environment, Aalborg University in Aalborg. The position is available from 1st of August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position may be filled at either level depending on the qualifications of the applicant. 

Job Description

The successful candidate will contribute to research, teaching, and knowledge dissemination within Construction Management and Building Informatics. The department seeks a candidate with strong expertise in project and process management, information management and data-driven approaches in the built environment.

You will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment and contribute to activities related to digitalization and management of construction processes.

Your Work Tasks

Research

  • Conduct research at a high international standard within construction management and building informatics.
  • Publish research results in international peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
  • Participate in national and international research projects.
  • Develop interdisciplinary research activities connecting construction, technology, and management.
  • Contribute to the strategic research priorities of the Department of the Built Environment.

Teaching and Supervision

  • Teach and develop courses at BSc and MSc levels within the domain of construction management and building informatics.
  • Supervise student projects at BSc and MSc level, and at Associate Professor level also supervise PhD candidates.
  • Apply and further develop Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as practiced at Aalborg University.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation in study programmes.

Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with industry partners, public authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Disseminate research through workshops, seminars, networks, and industry engagement.
  • Translate research results into applicable solutions for the construction and building sectors.

Academic Service (particularly for Associate Professors)

  • Participate in academic committees, study board activities, and programme development.
  • Contribute to the academic and organizational development of the department.
  • Mentor junior researchers and support the research environment.  

Your Competences

  • Strong professional foundation within construction management and/or digital construction technologies.
  • Expertise in information management and construction industry processes.
  • Ability to conduct high-quality research and work collaboratively in research groups.
  • Competence in relevant research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, computational, or mixed methods).
  • Strong teaching skills and the ability to engage students in a PBL-based learning environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for interacting with both academic and industry partners.
  • Project management competences (required at Associate Professor level).
  • Ability to attract external research funding and lead projects (expected at Associate Professor level). 

Assistant professor
Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. This position is for 3 years.

Associate professor
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.  

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications. 

Qualification requirements

Assistant Professor

  • PhD in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture/Engineering, Building Informatics, or a closely related area.
  • Documented research potential through publications or other research output.
  • Experience or strong interest in university teaching and student supervision.
  • Ability to contribute to the department’s research themes and teaching portfolio.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and industry engagement.
  • International experience is an advantage.

Associate Professor

  • PhD in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture/Engineering, Building Informatics, or a closely related area.
  • Documented internationally recognized research record, including publications in high-quality journals.
  • Significant teaching experience and a documented teaching portfolio.
  • Experience supervising MSc and PhD students.
  • Documented ability to attract external funding and lead research projects.
  • Experience in curriculum development, academic coordination, or research leadership.
  • Strong academic and/or industry network at national and international levels

Salary and terms of employment

There is a mutual probationary period of 3 months for the position.
