We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor who will work on multiplexed CRISPR interventions to assess epitranscriptomic influence on cell fate for a 2-year position to commence 1st June 2026.

The position relates to a project funded by the Lundbeck Foundation and managed by Associate Professor Sarah Rennie.

Job description

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Carry out a research project, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • Participate in day to day supervision of students, including MSc/BSc projects
  • Present and discuss your research broadly, including sharing knowledge with society
  • Participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors
  • Carry out research-oriented teaching

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

The applicant will require skills and track-record working with

  • Cas12 based synthetic transcription factors as well as Cas13 systems.
  • Experience working on design and synthesis of crRNA arrays for multiplexed targeting of genes for their manipulation.
  • Experience working with nanopore systems.
  • Extensive skills in molecular biology as well as mammalian cell culture.
  • Demonstrated skills in bioinformatics.
Desirable experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in or closely related to Mammalian Synthetic Biology.
  • You are highly experienced in publishing independent projects as co-corresponding/last author.
  • Experience in applying for and securing external funding
  • Experience in management of students and an active interest in MSc/BSc project supervision
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

The Rennie group (rennielab.io) is a part of Section for Computational and RNA Biology, Department of Biology, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The start date is 1st June 2026.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process
