Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University (RUC), invites applications for a position as assistant or associate professor in Digital Transformation from August 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The assistant professor position is limited to four years, whereas the associate professor position is a permanent appointment.
The Department of People and Technology is the largest department at RUC and covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human–society–technology interactions and including, for example, sustainable transition, social entrepreneurship, urban planning, psychology and learning, sustainable digitalization, work, and health studies. The position is linked to the research group Sustainable Digitalisation (SDI) working within the research areas of information systems, participatory design, design science research, human-computer interaction, and computer supported cooperative work. More specifically, the research group addresses the following themes:
- Projects – how organizations can improve the management of IT projects from need to organisational change.
- People – workplace studies to investigate collaborative and communicative practices in complex organizational settings.
- Participation – specification and evaluation of the effects of IT usage and how effects can play a prominent role in IT management and governance.
- Process – how organizations can improve their digital design and development processes.
- Praxis – solving real-world problems in practice through design, construction, evaluation, and reflection on artifacts.

The research responsibilities include obligations to perform original research, see it through to publication, and engage in scientific communication. The candidate will be expected to build and maintain a significant record of publications and research contributions. In addition, the ideal candidate will seek visibility within their field of research, for example by organizing research events.
The teaching responsibilities associated with the position involve education programmes at the undergraduate level, graduate level, and executive master level. At all three levels, the teaching tasks consist partly of course teaching and partly of project supervision. The ideal candidate can teach in all the following education programmes:
In addition to research and teaching, the candidate must contribute to a strong research culture in the research group. The position also requires sharing knowledge with partners outside of academia, including participation in the public debate. The candidate should also contribute to the ongoing development of the problem-oriented project-learning teaching model and be part of strengthening the interdisciplinary, exemplary, and collaborative approach, characteristic of the teaching environment at Roskilde University.
An assistant professor is required to complete the educational training programme for assistant professors at Roskilde University.
QualificationsApplicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent within computer-supported cooperative work, human-computer interaction, information systems, or a similar field.
We are seeking applicants with a strong research profile in digital transformation, preferably rooted in a predominantly empirical approach to research, including action research, field experiments, and workplace studies. Applicants should demonstrate research contributions and teaching qualifications in one or both of the following subject areas: (1) digital leadership, including IT and enterprise architecture, IT strategy and governance, organisational IT security and risk management, project management, and process innovation and (2) digital design, including digital fabrication, interaction design, research through design, and interactive user experiences. Experience with the societal and organisational implications of digital transformations that involve emerging technologies will be considered an advantage.
The successful candidate will become a member of the SDI research group and should relate their research to that of the group. In addition to the research qualifications, the applicant should have the qualifications necessary for teaching in several of the above-mentioned education programmes.
The candidate is expected to master Danish (or Swedish/Norwegian) to the extent of being able to teach and supervise in Danish and to participate in ongoing administrative and collegial cooperation. Mastery of Danish is also critical to the possibility of conducting empirical research in Danish settings.
The ideal candidate shall possess good cooperative skills, be visible, and actively participate in the daily activities of the research group and education programmes. The candidate should be willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department. We encourage candidates from transdisciplinary research environments possessing the ability to collaborate with researchers from multiple fields of research to apply for this position.

- Attract external research funding and manage research projects in collaboration with external partners
- Contribute to the development of the research profile of the SDI research group
- Contribute to an engaging learning environment and to developing RUC’s education programmes
- Teach/supervise/assess PhDs and attract new PhD students and postdocs

Experience with problem-oriented project supervision and teaching at the university level are an advantage.

Terms of employmentThe employment is full time, and you will refer to the Head of Department, Peter Kjær.
